marine depot and premium aquatics are both listed on the Tunze USA web site.

burton, it doesn't really matter. The prices are the same across the board. It's more a matter of actually finding the units in stock.

I think pretty much everywhere you go your going to find most of the models backordered about a month.
Im still waiting on mine as well.
I did notice however, the 6000s have alot shorter waiting list than the 6100s.
Unfortunately, I ended up going with the 6100s =/

Good luck finding them.

I got mine from Marine Depot... send them an email to add your name to the waiting list. I think I waited about 3-4 weeks before getting mine.

My SPS LOVE IT... I was amazed at the water they move. I have tons of ripples on the surface of my tank. Even better is that the 6000 only uses 15W of juice!!! I also got the photo cell so that it will run on the low setting when the lights are off. I forgot that it had the feed mode and I just started using it... Very nice. Press the button, pump is off for 8 minutes of so, then it turns itself back on.
Depending on the type of tank you have, you might need to get the special mounting kit. I might have read that they come with them now (or they were talking about it in the future) so check that out before you get the mounting kit seperate.

It might be, I was discussing using a Tunze 6000 on a 24" cube tank and Rodger (The us distributor for Tunze) thought it would be too much even knowing that It would be an SPS dominated tank.

I get the feeling that these are best in a 36-48" or longer tank. He suggested I would be better off with the 7000 series electronic power heads for my application.

I thought it would be too much for my 55... but I got it anyway since I will eventually upgrade to a bigger tank. I have it mounted in the corner pointed diagonally towards the center of the front glass. Some flow bounces off, and most continues down to the other side of the tank. Ideally it would be nice to have it shoot straight accross the tank, but there is not enough room and my rocks are kinda in the way. They produce a really wide flow and I think my setup restricts it, but it is still better than 3 powerheads!!

I think anything less than 48" is asking for trouble, especially if you have a DSB. Barebottom is a little different story. I have had some sandstorm problems in my 120.

Could you place it behind the rocks and let it seep through?

That is what I had to do with the 6060 on my 125. Of course I am already running two mag 5's and a mag 7 so the additional 1600 GPH was a little overkill but it looks pretty cool shooting through the gaps and holes in the rock.

Try shops in Canada. My 6000s and multicontroller just arrived from J&L Aquatics in Vancouver. Paid more but I wasn't willing to wait. Here's the link:

anyone ever mount one in the back/middle of the tank facing forward? So that the flow is all dispursed. Seems like you could do that for a smaller tank.

burton14e7 - Its a 90g oceanic bowfront. I'm a newbie just starting to purchase the equipment. Plan to use two of the 6000s streams at the sides with a multicontroller. I had thought about using southdown for the DSB but I may just go with a 2-3 inch layer of larger 1-3 mm sand to avoid the finer material being displaced by the streams. I understand that the streams can really move sand depending on how you operate and where you put them, particularly in smaller tank.

Jamesurq,
I saw one done like that on a 110 gallon. Really moved the water around, thought about doing it on a 75 but would ruin my sand. Of course the 110 is quite a bit taller and it worked great.

You guys bring up a good point about the sand.... I forgot to mention that I have CC (barely enought to cover the bottom glass) in my 55 so that is not a issue for me. It did move some of it.

Just want to make sure people understand my setup so they can make an informed decision.

yeah i plan to have 3-4 inches of sand, i guess the best thing for me would to do a closed loop with a scwd since the tunze seem to be too powerful for my application

I think if you mounted it near the bottom of the tank pointing slightly up, you'll be okay.
