Looking for a quiet DC cooling fan......recommendations?

I want to replace the 3.5" cooling fan in my 24" Maristar fixture. The thing sounds like a jet everytime it's running. It turns on when my T5's turn on so I'm guessing it's a DC fan. Can someone recommend a quiet fan I can replace it with? Thanks.

You will have to pull it out and check to see if it is DC or AC. I would be willing to bet that it is AC. If it is DC, check out http://silentpcreview.com/ to see what they suggest for a good quite fine that will fit in your fixture. If it is AC, I'm not sure of a good source for quite fans but hopefully somebody else will.

ok......maybe I got it mixed up. AC fans can plug directly in the wall or is it a DC fan?

Ac plugs into the wall, DC uses batteries or a AC/DC adapter. Computers normally use 12 volt DC fans.

It has been my experience that AC fans are noisy, really noisy compared to a comparable DC fan. I've changed mine over to dc 12v fans because of the noise. I highly recommend it.

I bought a coralife fan that has the AC/DC adapter and took that adapter to a 12V DC computer fan from newegg.com. I got one of the sony liquid ball bearings or what not and it is very quiet!

I hit CompUSA for the fans and than used a 12v powersupply "wall wart" to power them.
