January Meeting: UCO, Jan 12th @7.30pm. Massive prize giveaway.

The next meeting of COMAS will take place on Saturday January the 12th 2008 at 7.30. It will be at the UCO venue we have used for the last few years. Please mark your calendars (unless you have a COMAS calendar, in which case it is already marked...).

This meeting will be our annual membership drive and grand prize giveaway. The Door prizes have already begun rolling in from our sponsors and we already have several thousand dollars of goodies to be given away on this night.

Please note, you do not have to be present to win a prize, but you do have to be a member. The deadline for paypal subscription is Jan 11 midnight- or you can simply join on the day.

In addition to the great doorprizes we will have available that night we will also let you know the plans for the upcoming year. This year we have some great programs to offer....but more on that later.

Once again, please mark your calendars and please make every effort to come and join us on Saturday Jan 12th.

Details on how to pay subscriptions as well the prize list will be posted in this thread over the next few days.

Regards,

the COMAS Leadership Team.

Well....its that time of the year. Time to renew memberships with COMAS.

The annual subscription fee is $25 for general members and only $10 for Associate members.

Yes you can, but you may have to wait in line and your membership card will not be available until the next meeting (Feb 2008).

In my opinion the club is well worth the membership fee. You will easily recoup your fee in discounts at most local fish stores. The meetings are always full of good information, door prizes when you attend (except for January when attendance not required for door prize), and plenty of friendly people who are willing to talk reef/fish. There are always those who are willing to give advice or help you personally with your system and /or tank related problems or questions. You DO NOT have to be a member to attend meetings or participate on this forum, but there are programs like the LFS discounts, door prizes, COMAS library, and FRAG Program that you would be ineligible for. There are plenty of other intrinsic benefits. The club is currently working to help those who lost part or all of their systems due to recent power outages get started again. They are great people.
Welcome to the COMAS forum here at reef central and if you have or are interested in reef/marine fishtanks you can't go wrong with a membership. I would suggest you try to pay early by PayPal or such to have your membership card ready by the first meeting.

This is solely my opinion and not paid for by the club, nor due I get any special compensation for said opinion. LOL

See the post "2008 Membership Cards/Nametags."

Purza-

I've been sucking up for years and it has yet to win me a better prize...but seriously thanks for the support! It is a great club with lots of friendly fishy people.

Paul and others work their fannies off to get us great prizes. This is one meeting you don't want to miss.

Thanks everyone for chiming in on the membership dues and payment info.

If you follow the link above from Papagimp, it will take you to the club's website with cost and benefit info. You can click on the membership option you'd like and it will send me the money.

Please include your

Thanks

Of course you can bring him. I hope we get to see all of the latest frags. Paul might have to get some baby stuff to give away as door prizes.

Been a member for less than a year, and would recommend this to anyone who is even thinking about trying the Hobby. The information and community is PRICELESS!

What exactly is an associate member?

I will be living in OKC until June then I will be moving to Tulsa in July.

Does OMAS have Associate memberships?

An associate member is an associate of a general member. For example, I am a general member and Lynn (my wife) is an associate.

Associates have to share the same address and be related. i.e, not a room mate.

Probably a good idea to ask on the OMAS board so John can give you a better answer. If I'm not mistaken, OMAS does not have one, but you can purchase a second membership for your home. The basic membership covers your entire family, but some of the benefits are only claimable by one person (IE one entry per membership during a giveaway)

This is basically a way for us to extend membership benefits to other adults in the family. Having a second membership and card has benefits over just a single card.

An associate member can:
carry a membership card and receive a discount
vote
enter in club drawings
receive frags

These are all in addition to the main member's benefits.

If you just want one membership, the family is still welcome to attend meetings and participate, but they can't receive a discount at an LFS without your card and they wouldn't have a separate vote or seperate entry into the prize drawings.

So what exactly goes on at these meetings? How long can I expect it to last?
