Talking Big Fat Worm

Hi Ron,

Found this worm crawling around one of my Sea Grass tanks. Thought you'd like it If my memory serves it's a peanut worm...otherwise feel free to tell me I've gone senile

Hi,

Senility is thy name....

It is a polychaete annelid (aka "bristle worm"); common name = lugworm; scientific name = Arenicola. They are quite common in some temperate marine muds.

If we could get tropical ones they would be great to have in a sand bed. They are detritus eaters of the first order.

See my articles in the March through May [rk]. Bristle size can vary a lot. These animals move through sediments. Long bristles would be an impediment in such a habitat, so while these animals have thousands of bristles, they are small and inconspicuous.
