Goniopora spawning?
Hi, this morning my Green goniopora ejected a fairly large amount of bright green dye stuff, I bet it didnt spawn and somebody will dash my hopes but any ideas to this?
Somebody suggested it could be excess food that the coral is disposing. Ive included a picture if that helps at all. cheers |

It doesn't look like it was dyed and food usually appears to turn black (or dark colored) after it has been sitting in the gut digesting for awhile.
I've seen goniopora release zooxanthellae (brown), but never the fluorescent proteins (green) too. Yours still contains green in it's tissue, so it doesn't appear as if it is shedding fluorescent proteins in mass quantities. I don't even know if they can do that. When they spawn it is usually like white smoke, but maybe the gametes can also contain fluorescent proteins and yours spawned with green smoke instead of white. How long have you had it?

Hi ive had it 4 months and it's really healthy for a goniopora, ive seen many badly kept ones.
I do think it appeared to be like smoke, very much like a sea hares when they eject ''smoke'' The smoke was the exact colour of the end tips of this gono aswel of a mixture of white??? Exciting stuff i find Last edited by sigster500; 10/22/2006 at 06:09 PM. |
