Anyone keeping Lithophyllon?
I have a couple of frags from different colonies. One I've had for a few months, the other is relatively new. The first frag has been kept up high in stronger flow, while the new frag is kept about mid tank and moderate flow. The original frag still has nice blue mouths but the flesh has turned from green to brown. The new frag is still a nice powder-teal color with blue eyes but looks like it might be fading slighting.
I'd like to know what others' experience is with these corals. I do see great tentacle extension at night, so I assume both of mine are still healthy.

I actually just picked a large colony up a couple weeks ago. this is a pic shortly after importation and transfer to my quarium. The coral is gaining more flesh and color everyday. it is probably about 5" at the longest pt. I swear this coral looks like an exact hybrid of features from halomitra and diaseris.

Nice one! I just have frags, can't wait until they get that big. What lighting and flow does it get in your tank?

I am keeping my coral in moderate flow and light. My specimen has only begun to extend small tentacles but i expect that it will soon be very fleshy. It is an agressive feeder as well.

I bought one of the baby blue ones that Ming at Atlantis is selling and its done great...a bit slow growing but retaining its "powder blue" really well at the bottom of my tank with dual 250s and quad VHO.

I have a similar looking litho to coralite's piece.
Okie it will pick up growing speed. I have had mine for awhile and it is growing like crazy.

The mother colony at Atlantis is (was) huge! That thing had to be at least 8" around before they started fragging it. That one is green, with some brown flesh, and powder blue eyes. I have a piece of it but the flesh on mine is browned out, the eyes are still a sweet powder blue though.
The other piece I have is teal with powder blue eyes, I think I'm going to move them to the top of the tank (I run all T5's) and see what happens. Jacob.

How come I am the only one that has posted an image? I know jendub has a camera!
The specimen from atlantis looks very much like the images from COTW for L. undulatum. My specimen has a very prominent central coralite so I am assuming it is either that it is L. lobata. Atlantis Litho L. undulatum L. lobata

sorry coralite, I sold a frag so I can't post pics......didn't you get the memo?
A couple of threads were shut down....all of us were warned in a public post.....any of that sound familiar? I think we are all trying to follow the rules and let the threads get back to a positive manner. In good time, we all can show off but for now we are just going to have to use your imaginations.

Platinum, welcome to RC.
Lithophyllon are indeed related to fungias and they do have multiple oral discs (mouths).

I've been killing time surfing the net for litho info and pix. I found this one from reeffarmers labeled as L. edwardsi which is not a recognized species in COTW.
this one is from wetwebphotos and it is labelled as L mokai

I just took some newer pics of my specimen. It has been increasing in puffyness but I made it retract its tissue to show for detail.

I have had this piece for over 10 years, but never really knew what it was. In fact, I still don't. It looks similar to the corals posted in this thread. It is more yellow/orange than the pictures show under the 14KK lights. It is a moderate grower, but has no tentacles and is not puffy. Thanks for the input.

Hey Dr. Joe,
your coral is leptoseris. It does have a very similar texture to lithophyllon but if you see the 2 in the same tank they look nothing alike.

Mine don't get very puffy, maybe they are unhappy. They do extend their tentacles at night though.

Hey Dave, thanks for sharing your pic. I am not sure if it is a lithophyllon. I have seen a handful of unusual mostly encrusting corals that look like yours. On the one hand some of them look more like an unusual, larger sructure Pavona species and others still look more like Lithophyllon. I am also considering encrusting Podabacia species as a possible ID for some of these. Only time will tell us how the coral decides to grow out and then we will have a reasonable margin of certainty for the ID.
