Question OCT-DNW-150 Pump

I plan on buying an octopus recirculating 150 skimmer. I've heard some of them are not built the same. I've heard that some of the pumps are not the same.

Is the pump the only difference?
What are the different pump brands, which is better, and why?

I never heard of any differences, besides names. My swc recirculating nw-150 has the octo-2000. I use a mj 900 to feed it.

the only difference i've seen is the pumps that come with it. Usually you pay more for the OTP 2000 pump, which is a better pump than the cheaper one. I have this skimmer on a 72 Bow and I love it. You may want to purchase the gate valve mod for it for better control though

Is the gate valve something I have to buy from the supplier or can I get a gate valve from lowes?

I just noticed you are researching the OCT-DNW-150. The gate valve mod is only needed on the OCT-NW-150 (non recirc model). My apologies for the confusion...

Thanks for the link.

I plan on getting this skimmer. It looks like it already has a gate valve on it.

Am I correct?

The recirculating skimmers come with a ball valve. It is harder to make little adjustments. You can swap it for a gate valve at Lowes or leave it be.
