Xenia Dying Pleas Help!!
this started to happen to one xenia and now has spread to every single one (of the the same species, the pom poms are doing great). anyone have any idea whats going on?? all my parameters are normal. was having a ph problem that now is fixed. i test iodine and it is good as well. an y ideas? has this happened to anyone else?

just found something while inspcting everythign on the tank. i had an ehiem 2217 that was full of water but was not plugged in. i mustve changed the filter out and not plugged it back in a coupl eweeks ago. and this corresponds perfectly with the ph drop and the xenias and zoos melting. when i opened the unit up it smelled like rotten eggs. it ws horrible!! could this be the problem???? i cleane dit out put it back on and am doing a water change. anything else i can do??

that actually looks like some kind of Cespitularia...hard to keep in reef tanks. ive never seen a brown striped one before, sorry not much help, as long as your pom-pom xenias are doing fine..xenias should live..but cespitularia is different.

You may run carbon for a week, changing it every 2 days, small portions. The one from Wal-Mart will work for emergency too.
More water change, wet skimming, and - if you have it - the diatom filter. Better to remove as much as possible of the rotten particles. If xenia not just melts (closes and becomes blob-like), but will have a separate layer over, black powder-like or slime - gently siphon it out, the alive part should recover. My experience is only with white xenia, sorry. |
