Power Heads -- How Many?

I am in the process of starting a mini-reef aquarium. I am ready to take my hobby to the next level.

I decided I should start small and purchased a 30-gallon aquarium. With this purchase were 2 power heads. Are 2 power heads enough to effectively move the water about?

If yes, where should I position them for maximum efficiency?

If not, how many should I have? And where should I position them for maxium efficiency?

Thank you in advance to all who reply!

Ivana

Welcome to reef central!!!! Can you tell me what powerhead you are using? Two may even be too much for that size aquarium. What kind of animals are you planning to house?

It depends on what your keeping. I have a FLR and LPS coral. I have a flow around 40 x volume. SPS will need more. I run 3 tunze(6055 and 2 6045) I have found pointing two powerheads at each end of the tank will create good gas exchange and flow. I like the nano's because of their size and ability to adjust. The magnetts are a real plus with these.
