you can add sand and rock as soon as your specific gravity is stable at 1.025-1.026.
get your SG, and temp. good, then add your sand and rock. let your tank run for a month or so, (some people say more, some say less) and do your regular maintanance. ( you dont need any additives, or lights tho)

It depends on what how you want to do it.

Usually I put the sand in first, then plastic on top, then a platter, then a pitcher, then I begin to fill it up with saltwater that pours into the pitcher, overflows onto the platter, then onto the plastic. Once the tank is half full, I carefully remove the pitcher, platter and plastic, and place LR in the tank. Then I add more saltwater.

Put some powerheads in that tank so the salt will get mixed up as it circulates through the system.

Once the saltwater is mixed up, your skimmer will create tiny bubbles that were mentioned above. You won't see them until the water is saline.

Yes i dont know what i am going to do just yet but i woke up this morining and the tank has cleared will test around 300 or 400 o-clock. My skimmer is working great. When i add my sand all my pumps will be off. Then when all settle downs i will turn them back on.

You will need at least two pumps bare minimum. Maybe a pair of Korallia 3 pumps. I'm sure others will chime in with their favorites.

Mine would be one VorTech.

I didn't have the sand ready until the day of the switch, so I added it after the saltwater was mixed. What I did for my 90g that I just set up was this:

1) Turn off all the pumps
2) Slowly bring a small bucket of sand down to the bottom of the tank and empty it. This eliminates a lot of cloudiness.
3) Level sand as much as possible. It will get pushed around with the flow and when you're arranging rocks, so starting with a flat surface may help.
4) Turn all the pumps back on.

I also used a filter sock during this process. I believe it helped gather the floating sand particulate so the water cleared up faster.

As for pumps, I use the Koralias. I chose them because they are cheap in comparison to other pumps of similar flow and they don't require a lot of electricity to run. There are many other pumps that are smaller and may have more options, but be prepared to pay a pretty penny!

Ok thanks guys i just tested the water and its hasent been a full 24 hours but it read at around 1.021 i would like it to be around 1.025 or 1.026.
I will check out the pumps

I have to put a little more salt in its still around 1.021 and question on corals when you add an SPS if they die to the put something toxic in your tank that will be bad for it

If you're talking about return pumps, I can't give my recommendation.... I'm using a "quiet 1" pump that I got from petco earlier this year before I knew better.... It's pretty bad, but is doing the job for now.

For retun pumps, either Ehiem or Ocean Runner. Since the dollar has sank. Ocean runner is a great. I use a OR 2500, very happy with it so far. I have a Ehiem 1260 for a back up. This was before the price increase.

I use Tunze 2 6045 and 6055 for flow. I like the look and the magnet for Tunze. There cunstomer service is the best in the industry.
