A very inspiring tank to say the least! Thanks for a great narrative.
You mentioned that you clean and treat your filter socks, can you elaborate?

Sock's are cleaned every 5 to 7 day's ...I turn the socks inside out and throw them in the washing machine...Once they are in the washer I add about 1/4 cup of bleach ...I use the ultra white cycle on the washer...Once they are finished I remove them and throw the socks in a 5 gal bucket W/ Prime water conditioner. The socks will sit in the bucket for a few days..Then I remove the socks and let them air dry for a day or 2..Now they are ready to be reused..

Thx's

Mike

mike, this is definitely one of the greatest sps tanks in existance! the colors and large colonies are amazing, congrats on the TOTM honors .

just a few questions from me:
do you clean or vacuum your ssb during maintenance?
do you have nitrate, phosphate or ORP readings?

i'm truly in awe of it!!

thanks,
tim

No I don't vacuum the bottom. It is just to hard to get around the coral with out breaking large pieces .
No nitrates or phosphates with my test kits..There has to be something in the system but the test kits do not register anything...My orp with out ozone is around 230 -245.W/ ozone My magic # is 300 to 330..If I go any higher on the orp my corals start to fade....I hope this helps..

Thx's

WOW!

Hey mike its andrew from scott's pet, amazing tank. You got some real monster corals in there, very nice fish too, love the tangs.

It's really astounding how you've built this great setup and I really admire your passion and strong hard work that you put into this hobby. I hope one day to be in a situation like you are, Utah is gonna have the best coral selection ever!

See you soon!

As far as colors, 12k coralvue will give u whiplash over and over just by looking at the tank. I just add 2 of those last Feb together w/ the 10k and the result is fantastic.

Reef on !
Thx's Menard...

The 12k's are awsome for color......

One of the most amazing tanks I have ever seen! I have been eagerly awaiting the TOTM article since following your post in the sps forum.

Don't take this the wrong way but I think the coralline algae on the front panel distracts from the beauty of this tank.

Loved the space for the SPS and the natural look.....

I understood that you used Reef Octopus. For how long did you used it and what brought you to replace it. Making experiments with skimmers in such a beautiful reef is a bit risky?
Did you see some changes in the water parameters or changes in the corals? What is the main difference to your opinion between the Reef Octopus and the ORCA 250? I belive that your opinion is important due to the big price difference between these 2
Hi Mike
you may missed my reply
I am really interested in the skimmer changes that you made since it's the heart of the system and it may be a factor for choosing a skimmer

I noticed a series of fans built onto the back of the hood and on the side. Do you have these wired to come on with the lights, or are they on a serperate timer?

Nice tank, by the way.
