i dont see any problem with it as long as you've given them room to grow... i have both in the same tank, but they are a goof 4-5ft apart

No, not in the same tank. That's already happening I mean grow into/on/over/under each other or will one burn the other?

I don't think they'll fight with one another, simply because they're the same species, however if one grows faster it will encrust over and as a result the other one get as much light etc.

I've heard a few rumors here and there that the cali and oregon really are the same exact coral too, they just went to different tanks initially.

They're likely different a different species, Mike. Steve Weast (godfather of the Oregon tort ), doesn't even think the Oregon is a tortuosa at all.

That's what I was afraid of, dont want one to turn out to be an echinata or something and fry it. As far as the same coral? No, similar but very different.

They will burn each other. The oregon tort is thought to not even be a true tort on how it grows.

Is this a speculation that they'll sting each other or fact?

Really? Tyree says they're the same coral on his sight. They split the colony up between him, another guy and ORA that's why one is called the cali and one is the ORA blue tort.

The difference I see between the cali and oregon is less green in the oregon and more lighter blue, and slower growing from what I hear although I've only had mine for a couple weeks, but have had the cali for over a year now.

LMAO, walk in here with a question and am leaving with a few more

let them grow into each other, prune when yuo ave to, look at the wild, you have corals growing all into each other with out problems. you can't put them right next to each other at first but when they grow they will be fine. its nature.

Theres ALOT of things happening in nature I would not want to happen in my tank

Ultimately, my questions is will they safely coincide and intermingle like various montiporas and some other corals of the same specie.

An oregon tort is not a Cali/ORA tort. It is a completely DIFFERENT piece. One, the color is completely different. If you had both, you would know. Also the Oregon tort grows very clustery if you can call that a word. The regular tort just has alot of branches.

One will kill the other. Of which I don't know. I'm not dumb enough to try it.

Yeah, Justin! You've got us all mixed up

The ORA Tort and the Cali Tort are the same. Maybe even the exact same DNA. The Oregon Tort's a different beast altogether

I've heard that ORA now has an Oregon Tort, but Weast's is good enough for me.

That's how I understood it too. But unfortunately I was "stupid" for putting it too close and sounds as if I should rethink my placement

To give credit where credits due... we all, Steve Weast included, owe Travis @ Upscales for the OR tort

That's where mine came from. I didn't mean to come off grouchy. And I wasn't trying to bash anyone. I'm just saying, I've done some stupid things but I'm too scared to try that. My oregon tort is growing but not that fast. I might try that with some millis but considering the cost of an O tort and the chance of it is TOO risky for me.

They are different corals, so you obviously can't grow them on top of eachother. My friend has both in the same tank near eachother and they're growing like weeds. Check out his tank.

Jay24k, just razzin ya, and playin the hyper-sensitive card on ya
I completely understand, and feel the same way. Im playin with a 3/4" inch piece and burnt a 1/5 of that when the glue came undone and it rolled into a digi. Speaking of Oregon Tort and ROAB digi = burnt tort
But it's polyps are out and all is good now, 'cept for the cali.....
