H20, I just love your corals placement and can't wait to see it start growing out. It is looking just awsome.

It is actually hard to see in the picture, but the Red Brain in the lower right corner is getting it's color back slowly and starting to expand out as well. I hope it continues to keep going in that direction as it has always been one of my favorite corals.

Yay! I went to the LFS and they had some FAT and healthy mandarins in stock! I couldnt resist. I got a fat male (splendisidus)and i put him in the tank and was foraging, then I tried some frozen mysis and it ate it! I fed again today. He goes in a little corner where the other fish cant go and is chowing down! Woot Woot this mandarin will work!

Ill post pics later

Very nice superswimmer, I always wanted a Mandarin in my larger tank but the scooter blenny was in a nano and needed a better environment with lots of pods. I have pods and brine swimming all over my refuge to give the main tank plenty of goodies and my scooter has a nice full belly.

rj about the brine in your refuge do you just let them breed or do you hatch them and add as needed?

They just started appearing one day and now I have bunches of them, even in spots in the main tank. I am not really sure if they are mysis or brine, but it is some kind of shrimp which is basically food for my tanks inhabitants. I am sure a lot get ate, but at night time I flash the light around in area's like entrances to the caves and such and you can see them all over.

Nick, your mandarin looks like a male to me (note the longer dorsal fin).

Here's one of my mandarins. This guy is such a pig!

And...baby seahorses.

Kayla, very cool on the baby seahorses.

Where are they at right now and how long do they have to stay there before you can do something with them. I am also curious as to what your plans are with them? A bigger sea horse tank?

Sweet.
RJ those shrimp you are talking about, are they larger or small? I have a bunch of period sized ones swimming everywhere in my main tank and my fuge. I do have mysis swimming in there to.

Kayla how often do you feed? your mandarin is huge!
Due to my schedule i only can feed once a day.. I cube of mysis and some other food.

Thanks everyone. I must admit, this came as a complete surprise to me; I was not expecting to see 60-80 miniature horses swimming around my tank yesterday morning! But, the BBS hatched by the time I came home from school today, and I immediatley fed the babies (I'm hoping this wasn't too late). All are still alive as of this evening, but some are far more active than others. I am treating each one with great care though, because he/she just might be the one who pulls through.

I have the fry divided into two, 2 gallon (shallow) containers with macro algae and little flow. I will be doing frequent (daily) water changes to combat the massive amounts of food necessary as well.

If any do survive (I cannot get my hopes up just yet, which was why I was reluctant to post the news), they would not be kept with my other horses due to the potential of in-breeding.

I also saw them spawning again upon returning from school. Apparently there is no end in sight! I also thought it interesting that the male is white again; he had turned a dark brown the few preceding days. Now I have a good indicator as to whether he is pregnant!

Tuesday (night before birth)

Today

Kayla

(PS - RJ, nice to see you back. )

In the 20g, I feed twice a day (due to the frequent food requirements of the horses), one cube of mysis per feeding. On the days the sun coral is fed, the tank gets as much as three. This is a LOT of food for such a small tank (I would never recommend this much to anyone else), but I do very frequent. large water changes, and everything has done quite well--the seahorses sure don't seem to mind.

In the 46g, where the spotted mandarin is, I feed a cube of mysis once a day at max (sometimes every other), with other foods on occasion as well. Both tanks also have an ample supply of pods, which the mandarins most likely appreciate, although both eat frozen readily.

HTH, Kayla

Thanks Kayla.

Superswimmer: They are small like the size of a pencil tip. I am not sure whether they are brine or mysis.

Tanks look good Amanda, those sea horses are amazing Kayla.

I haven't posted for awhile, been very busy with work.

Upgraded my lighting on the weekend to an Arcadia pendant, 2 x 250watt (Phoenix Hexarc 14k bulbs) very happy so far...

Its a big unit.. but I plan to put a 60" x 30" x 25" tank under it at the end of the year.

Look forward to seeing updates on your tank Amanda.
