That's great your dad had a 90th BD party!!

I'm sorry about the isopod too. I've only seen the one so far. I am praying hard it was just a stray straggler and there aren't any more in the tank, but I am not going to rule anything out yet. Look how long it took me to spot this one!
I will continue to look for them for the next 2 months faithfully. If I don't spot any more by then, then I think I will be safe.

I am planning on having 2 MJ 900's in my 29 gallon + a Mag5 return from my sump - that gives a total of about 760 gph flow in my tank. How does that sound? Any advice?
I had 2 900's in each back corner facing the front glass and they are staggered in height. I switched out the one 900 for a new 1200 and the flow is just great, plus I have a 1200 running the skimmer. I switched it out just to see the difference and I can use the 900 in the other tanks

Does it look something like this:

What you are describing, if it looks similar to these photos, it is a "boxing crab" - Lybia tessellata. The two "fans" are small anemones. They wave them around defensively. When they molt, they will put them down somewhere safe and then come back to them when their exoskeleton is hard again.

I am pretty sure they are reef safe. These are rarely available to buy - what did it hitchhike on?

Does bob have TBS? This is more of an Indian Ocean species. This fits what he is describing though - not sure if there is a Caribbean species.

Ok. I have lots of the same thing he is describing in my tank.
He has a bunch of SW tanks....been doing it for years, but this is his first reef tank, and first with TBS.

The crab poormedstudent posted is what is called a "Pom-Pom" or "Boxer" crab. Very cool crab. I almost got one about 2 months ago, but we couldn't catch it and gave up. They actually hold little anemone's in their front claws for protection.
The bottom pic looks like it's carrying eggs.

Darn! It would have made marine biology news - Indian Ocean species found in the Gulf of Mexico!

No pics either?

From a local reefers tank. I bought my Derasa clam and a torch coral from him. He was going to give me the Pop-Pom crab for free, but it was being a little tricky to catch.

Here is a porcelain with his "fans" waving - and he is hanging upside down as well. We may have a winner!

How's your clam doing? What type of lighting are you running?
I think clams are so nice looking!

My clam is doing great. I'm running dual 96Watt PC actinics with Dual 175W 10,000K MH. Here's a pic, it's a lot bigger than it looks. It's about 6-7 inces.

How long have you had your tank setup? I'm not planning on getting one. I don't have any room to put one unless I re-arranged the rock.
What kind of care & food do they need?
