Cool !!! NEED YOUR ADVICE ... NANO CUBE 24 Gallons !!!!

Hi,

I went to the local aquarium store today, and I saw the NANO CUBE 24 gallon aquarium (http://www.jbjnanocube.com). I absolutely fell in love with the system on how well designed it is!
In about six months, I plan to build a 180 gallons reef tank ( I will use this tank then as a quarantine tank), but in the mean time I just can't stand being in a new house ( Just moved to North Carolina) with out a reef!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I can understand because this tank does not have the proper lighting, that I can only have fish and maybe some softies in it.
Does any one have this system ? Any comments (good or bad) on this aquarium system .

PLEASE ANSWER MY POST !!!

Thanks,

Yiorgo

I do not have one, but I do know people that have them and successfully keep softies and lps corals in them, and thrive.

They are a good company and their nano cube is a very nice small tank. 24 gallons is large enough to keep a few small fish along with some corals too. It comes with a power compact light I believe so atleast you get some good light. I'm sure you can find a way to upgrade the lights if neccessary. My opinion of nano tanks is not so great though- mine is empty. It takes more effort to sustain proper chemical levels in a small tank than a large one. Unless you want to go all out and really take care of it, it can become a hastle. If your getting a bigger tank you should just save your money in my opinion.

I'd stay away from the 24 gallon Nanocubes...high incidence of cracked tanks.

The nano forum would be the place to look. It's amazing how well those tanks can be modding for all kinds of upgrades. Also have a look at Nanocustoms.com for some good hardware.

Good starters are Cardinals and Clowns, you can stay away from the Damsels, they get too agresive most times. JD

Dear oct2274,

I am trying to decide between the Aquapod and Nano Cube 24 gallons aquariums. The tip you gave me that the new 2006 model has thicker glass eased my mind about a few posts saying about a few insidents of cracked aquariums.

I am leaning towards the NANO CUBE, because I like the design more. Where did you buy yours from ? I want to make sure that I am going to buy the 2006 model.

Also do you use a skimmer in your system ? Do you have any recomendations for a quiet skimmer that i can use with this system.

Thanks,

Yiorgo

I've wanted a nano reef for awhile now, but I've come to the conclusion that I will have more flexibility by building my own out of acrylic ( I really want to to a long, thin tank like one member here did, minus the CSD)

It would start out sump/skimmerless, but deciding on how things got in the tank, have the expandabilty for a sump (and henceforth, a skimmer)

Probably light it with a two or three long T5's.

After its all said and done, It should turn out cheaper, and be a lot more fun.

the only skimmer so far with little modding is the Fission Nano skimmer, the glass on the 24 cube 2006 shold 5mm as is the pod 24. One key difference is the filtration goes in the opposite direction.

I'm biased, I like the pod because I have one, I like the cube as well but watched my friend set up his cube and decided to try something different. Both systems come with stock return pumps that run hot, I would suggest changing them to maxijets, either the 900 or the 1200. (900 uses 8.5 watts while the 1200 is 18 or so watts)

I don't think you'll go wrong in either direction but me? I like my pod.
