sound proofing a stand

I want to sound proof my closed stand. What is the best type to use and where do I get some?

Those who have used sound proofing, share your experiences.

Many thanks/

how about the stuff they use to quite vibrations in high powered car stereos? It has a sticky back that you could just cut, peel, and stick. I don't know what it is made of though. I think one brand of it is called Dynamat.

Dynamat stops noise-causing resonance and vibration. Dynamat's visco-elastic qualities promote vibro-acoustic energy conversion. In short, Dynamat turns noise into silent energy.

Did a quick search on it, and I might just give this a shot for my stand as well!!!

Look in your boating supply store and look for the noise reducing foam used in engine boxes. It is expensive($100 and up) comes in two thicknesses, Real quiet. and can take salt water and heat and not come apart

Buy a few cheap rubber floor mats at Walmart. Also, those rubber bed liners for trucks work well for larger areas and are thicker. They run about $45 dollars.

I've done some soundproofing in the past. With my Camry, I took off the dash, door panels and took out the carpet and laid down soundproofing material. The Dynamat would have cost me into the thousands of dollars, so I tried using the cheap 1/4 inch thick pink foam from Home Depot as well as the 2 mm thick foam that people put under wood floors to dampen sounds. They each cost around $30, and it worked fantastically. So basically, any closed-cell (not open-cell like undercarpet padding) material should work. The trick is to make it in a sense "air-tight" so that no sounds can leak around the seams.

Buy styrofoam sheets from Lowes, cut them to size and use a low temp hot glue gun to glue them into place. I did this to my stand and it worked well. It was also very cheap and easy. The only down side of insulating your stand is that it traps in the heat/cold. It worked for me because I have a chiller and it just helped to keep in the cold. If you don't have a chiller then it will get really hot under there.

This would be quite the DIY project, but it's the best solution on the market right now for soundproofing:

great ideas guys. I am going to check these out. The greenglue page is really good. I am still reading.

I really like the boat insulation because I want something that will tolerate the humidity. I'll also check out that pink stuff from home depot. I think it is water proof.

The stand will have forced ventiliation with a computer fance, so it will not get too hot and will not be totally silent.
