More Latz have landed in the US

My LFS recently got in 7 Latz babies and some sub adults. They all have juve. markings but some are pretty good size. I used to think that they were CB but given the sizes of this recent batch I am not sold that they are WC.
I still thinking about picking up another pair to try and breed but I will give others a chance to get these ones since I already have 5.

Enjoy:

I really hope someone is successful in captive breeding them. Do you know how many the store has imported?

I remeber hearing that ORA used to CB them a few years ago but there wasn't much of a demand for them back then so they stopped.
I only know of these being imported but I have also started seeing other threads with people asking about their husbandry which is typically a sign of them being available elsewhere.

I think I saw a thread where OAMA said they lost the males of the pairs and only had females, but can't remember if they bred them. There's an etailer here in SoCal that has Latz available right now, but are asking more than your LFS. I have never seen them available at any store, but from what I've seen Tongs used to get them in and sold them for $80.

Besides McC's I think adult latz are one of the more unique looking clownfish but I am also partial to the various black and white colored clowns.

I got a couple this morning and they are very very unique looking for clownfish.

They are so much better in person, no pictures does them justice.

Yep, they were in very good shape and didn't look stressed at all. The smaller one still has some juv. color so thats cool.

I heard you picked them up around 8:30am? I think I'm going to try to pick mine up around 7:30am since they are traveling twice as far to get to me.

Rare Angels is right. They are much more impressive in person. Very unique and the blue lips really stand out. One of the coolest clowns, IMO. A deep orange bluestripe clown with deep blue stripes and latz are my favorite.

I also find the personality on these fish to just be amazing. Most clowns that you come across at a store (your typical percs and occ) seem very goofy and indeed "clown" fish.

The one latz I had the pleasure of knowing for a little while recognized me and really was a sweetheart. I could put my finger in the tank and she'd come up and just nibble it- not bite, she was near full grown and could draw blood if she wanted to- but she was SO gentle.

I really need to find me a clown like this for my own tank someday soon.

I picked mine up at 8:30am at the FedEx office at my local airport, thats when they open. Hopefully you can get into yours earlier.

Large Angels, Chrysopterus clowns are one of my favorites but I have not been able to keep them alive, they always come down with something.

Chrisstie they do have a awesome personality, they seem curious and regal.

Hey Dave,

I got up at 7:30am today to pick them up....but sadly the fedex center near my place opens at 9am. So i had to hang out for an hour or so in front of the place.

The packaging of the bags were excellent. Fishes were not stressed at all in the bag or in my tank. However the lights don't come on until later tonight and I wrapped the tank in white paper to minimize disturbance. I am keeping the tank cool at 76 or so and at 1.019 sg.

Can't wait until lights come on tonight!

I have been keeping my 5 in my reef tank and them temps are around 80-81 with no ill effects. The QT tank that they were kept in ranged from 76-78.
I wouldn't be surprised if the juveniles are being caught is shallow waters where the temps are much warmer.

I got a question....a family member of mine that was making sure the fishes were doing ok while I was at work told me that one of them was stuck by the powerhead, and when she moved the powerhead around a bit it started swimming again. This has happened twice today. Should I be worried? I'm thinking maybe it's just resting by the powerhead but I'm also thinking perhaps it's too weak to swim?

Was it stuck on the powerhead intake?
What kind of powerhead is it and is there a screen guard or sponge over the intake?
Is this in a QT tank?
If it is in a QT tank what else is in the tank besides the powerhead?
How did you acclimate the fish prior to putting them in the tank?

Many clowns including Latz have a tendancy to congregate around equipment in the tank when first introduced especially if there is no other object in the tank for them to hide in. My Latz all hung out around my Waveboxes for the first few weeks as they got acclimated to the tank. It is also not uncommon for clowns to host powerheads if there are no corals or anemones present.
They are not exactly the strongest swimmers especially when they are first introduced and have a tendancy to sometimes get stuck on unprotected pump intakes if they wander to close.

I think it's very possible that it was just hosting since once the powerhead was slightly shaken the latz was up and about and went to hang out with the smaller latz. And the fact that it was at the exact same place after an hour or so also tells me that it might just be resting and hosting the powerhead.

I do not believe it was stuck and it was really hard to tell since the tank is all dark. It was a rio powerhead but i forget which one...and no screen guard or sponge..should I put some on?

Not a QT tank but there is not much in it some rocks and simple lps corals including a couple that could be used as hosting for clownfishes.

Floated bag for 20 mins for temp. Made sure sg was close(my tank was a littile lower), lights out and tank wrapped with paper.

So they've been in the tank for a good 5 hours now and they are as of now swimming in the middle of the tank. Whew.
