six line wrasse owners

Please share your experience with them in an environment where it's 40g+.

How were they towards other tank mates?
How were they towards crustaceans, specifically crabs and shrimps?
Small crustaceans such as anemone shrimps and sexy shrimps?
How were they towards other wrasses?

Mine searches for pods all day. Minds its own business most of the time.

My six line killed my four line wrasses, but it got along well with other tank mates. It was a good eater, constantly looking for food.

Mines really good. Only distracted by his own reflection when I have a miror hung when adding new fish. Minds his own business most of the time.

Mine loves his reflection in the glass. He will "charge" at other fish but I have never seen him do any physical damage.

Interesting, my buddy has a 6 line in a 40g and added a firefish last week. No problems so far.

The 6 line is my fav fish in his tank, the most personality.

Mine bugged my scooter blenny and my maroon clown. It bugged the maroon clown a lot, which is odd because my maroon is at lest 3 1/2". Needless to say I haven't seen my six line for about 4 days, so I am assuming the maroon finally had enough. I won't purchase one again, but it was nice to have in my tank for 4 months.

I've had a six line wrasse in my 46G for several months with a firefish, royal gramma, flame hawkfish and four stripe damsel. He is a very active swimmer, never bothers any of the other fish and is not intimidated by the damsel.

Mine gets along with all current tank mates but does not like new additions. Looks for pods all day. Almost killed (took him out before he was done though) a yellow wrasse I got.

So the general assumption can be that unless housed in a large system bigger than 75g+, it will, depending on the six line, act aggressive towards tank mates?

Also, any experience with crustaceans?

I have a sixline in a 75 with a pair of percula clowns, a bicolor blenny, and a blue damsel. He has never shown any aggression toward any of his tankmates. I also have a cleaner shrimp and he hasn't shown any aggression toward him either.

My 6 harassed the crap out out of a Purple fire fish for a couple days, but then backed off. He did manage to eat two peppermint shrimp also. Even with the issues, he's still my favorite and oldest fish at almost 3 years.

I had one in a 46 g bowfront for a while (till I had to tear it down and go to college) and he never caused any problems. Mostly just cruised around the rocks. There was a firefish, a cardinalfish and a flasher wrasse with him, with no problems. Never bothered any inverts, but none of them were small (mythrax crab, snails, boxer shrimp, corals etc)

I worked for a while at a pet store, and we got a few agressive ones there. They did go after small inverts though. I probably wouldn't stick them with sexy shrimp.

In all my experiences with 6 lines they eat a lot. Expect to see a serious decline in your pod population. Also, if you have aggressive fish you should have some sort of protection for jumpers. I have had 2 wrasses (six line and lubbock's fairy) jump from my tank.

I have a 38g with a 6line, 2 percs, royal gramma and a chromis.

I don't recall the order exactly, but I believe the 6line was the third fish and my percs last.

I have about 65 lbs of live rock (five large pieces) to give you an idea of territory.

The 6line and the gramma tussle a bit - mostly just flared gills and a tiny bit of chasing, never actually nip at each other.

I also have a cleaner shrimp. I have never seen the 6line bother it.

However, a while back I purchased a twinspot goby. As soon as I put it in after acclimation the 6line was after it. It lasted 20 minutes. I decided five fish was obviously more than enough for my size of tank.

Overall, the 6line cruises around constantly and picks at the rocks etc. Swims in and out of the rockwork. Very active fish. One of my favorites and I would definitely get another if I had to.

I have one in a 45g, that guy doesn't do anything. I have a yellow tail damsel and at times when they cross paths they just flare up and nothing. No fighting ever occures. I also have a bicolor blenny and a pair of ocellaris, nothing there also. that little guy eats alot the first couple days I notice it had a fat stomach. Must of went out on a All you can eat pod for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Overall great fish.

I had one in my old 50g. He was a model citizen until he was found on the floor one morning. However, others haven't been so lucky.

6-lines will dominate IF GIVEN THE CHANCE. If they are the last fish in... that helps. If they are the first fish in... whatever comes after them could be in for it, including cleaner shrimp. The smaller the tank, the more magnified this situation will become. For a 40B, I would suggest flasher or carpenter wrasses over a 6-line any day. 6-lines are common, and they are often sold small, but the reality is that they will get larger (Ive seen them 4"), and have a personality of a larger wrasse as a consequence... even when smaller.

Mine's fine with other fish, but killed a peppermint shrimp and began eating it right before my eyes. It was every bit as big as he was too. Watch the shrimp, especially the smaller ones.

Im the otherway round, my 6-line gets beefed on hard by a Royal Gamma, although the 6-line is still smallsh (2")

He leaves everything else in the tank alone and is definately full of personality

the only fish mine bothers is the royal gamma, but thats few and far between. just bobs around all day and cleans my clown. never had a problem with any inverts: fire shrimp, cleaner shrimp. although i did put in a small mithrax crab which i have not seen since, but my clown coulda killed him.
