Smallest tank with a Seio 620?

I need to upgrade the flow in the 'bow and was going to just upgrade to a larger AquaClear (probably a 500) but have gotten it into my head that I should use a Seio 620. This is probably an unreasonable idea, as the 620 is pretty large and the tank doesn't have that much real estate - that and the fact that it would be almost 100X turnover! Can you say sandstorm? However, I could go BB since I'm majorly SPS dominant anyway.

So I'm curious, what's the smallest tank you're running a Seio 620 on? How's it working out for you?

Yeah, yeah I know, I know. I figure if I go BB, aim the Seio at the wall and put some rock around the edges, maybe I can baffle the flow. Or maybe not.

Maybe it is too much flow.

That's only 30X, that's about or a little less than what I have right now - AC 200 (200gph) + Microjet 450 (117gph) = 317gph ~ 300 gph / 7g = 33X turnover, barely accounting for any reduction in flow due to calcification or detritus.

OMG man, Different powerheads have different methods of flow distribution! Those are NOT like a maxi-jet, the flow is high, but its not concentrated its not a jetstream, its a big gentle current.

I'd say give it a shot man, according to what you've got.

Thank you! I knew I wasn't crazy. Did you start BB or pull the sand out? How are the LPS and softies taking it? If you could go into greater detail I would appreciate it.

I started the tank BB.
You can read more about the tank here .

Although it moves alot more water (gph), it's not concentrated like a powerhead. So it doesn't really blow things over if you had 620gph coming out of a 1/2 inch outlet. That being side, it's alot of flow

The few non-SPS I had in the tank was fine with the flow. You'll find that by the time the flow hits the glass, flows around the rockwork, etc it's very distributed. My Onyx pair were a little freaked out the first day I turned the Seio on, but soon enough were swimming in the stream... that'll give you an idea that at 620gph, it's still less than ocean currents

Wow FishMachine you're really against me getting a Seio.

Since I won't be buying anything for another two weeks (unless I sell some frags, which is a possibility) I still have some time to decide. I was hoping to find a local who might let me test-drive it but that's looking unlikely.

I'm thinkin that I will either:

1. Just buy an AquaClear 500 with a AC 300 impeller for CYA
2. Buy a Seio and give it a shot. Worst case I can just trade it with someone for a used AC 500, since they're about the same price anyway.

Decisions, decisions.

I'm just giving you a hard time - you've taken your position and stuck to it. Since going BB will incur additional cost (Starboard) and effort (removing my SSB) I suspect I will just go with the AC 500 for simplicity's sake. I'll have more than enough flow in my next tank.

Just for a reference, i have an 820 in my 29gal with a mag 9.5 return and have no problems with the southdown sand being blown around.
