Unhappy Secret to feeding Formula One / Two frozen cubes?

I picked up some frozen Formula One and Formula Two cubes. I discovered that the gel in them keeps the cube from separating when thawed. I had to mash them up with my fingers so I could feed it to our tank.

How are these cubes intended to be fed?

I'm guessing I'll have to always mash them, but I wanted to see if there's a better way to use them.

Please share...

I mash them up also. You could get a skewer and line them up on that and stick it in the tank.

Get one of these "Grid Feeding Clips":

I got mine from Drs. Foster & Smith for a buck or so. Order a couple, so you can mod one for Nori like this:

I didn't like having to mash them either, so I just bought them once. I have those clips but never even tried it.

if you cut each cube into quarters... you can then cut each quarter into 15 to 20 little bite siz pieces that the fish chase all over. some eve usually makes down to my gobie.

I thaw them, then put them through a garlic press. Presto - nice teeny bits. I find the cubes a bit of a PITA to feed, but the fish sure love them

Thanks for the ideas!

I didn't know until after I bought them that feeding them would turn into such a chore. But, sounds like there's a few different things I can try to make it easier.

Feeding these makes my skimmer go crazy. I prefer the frozen Emerald Entree to Formula 2.

i usually break it apart with my hands, and then hand feed my fish. i am a sucker for the interaction of hand feeding.

I cut them up into bite sized peices using an old knife that I keep with my feeding stuff. It never even hits the bottom before its gobbled up. No waste, little pollution. I am going to check out that Emerald Entree like theop mentioned.

Better than using it for garlic, that's for sure :-D

I just put the frozen cube in front of a powerhead and hold it there. It melts rather quickly and the food disperses throughout the tank.

I always let mine thaw out in a little water then use a wooden spoon to mash them up. Never thought of a garlic press. May have to add one of those to my aquarium arsenal.

I tried putting them through the garlic press. Much better!!!
Nonetheless, that gel is pretty tough... I hope it's completely digestable.
