I haven't owned either "brand", but i like the functionality of the standard RC style skimmer (I have owned a few) over the very complex BK mini internals.

My reasons are:
The BK mini requires a lot of work to get to the pump ( I don't care how easy they try and make it seem, when that thing is wet, it will be a PITA).
The BK mini (and all internal skimmers for that matter) must have a constant water level in the sump to yield consistent results.
The BK has too many parts that could break down the line.
Owners of the BK mini haven't shown me anything picture wise that would cause me to warrant that kind of money.

Just my opinion. And so while I am at it, I would also recommend you look into H&S skimmers as well. The A200-1260 is the AP851 equivalent. Right around the same price range, but IMO you get a better product, longer warranty and cheaper parts down the road.

I have owned an H&S skimmer. I was very satisfied.

Good luck and cheers,

Jim

I have owned a bubble king mini 200 and I wasn't at all pleased about the skimmer.

-The needle wheel came with plastic shavings still attached to the impellar.
-The bubble plate was made out of white PVC instead of clear PVC. You need to see through the bubble plate to line it up with the output of the pump. It was also scuffed up like someone scraped it on the ground before assembling it.
-Pump was making a loud knocking noise, vibrating and rattling. Kind of scary realizing the replacement pump is $780. If something goes wrong after warranty you will be out $780.

The sad thing was that the vendor PA tried to make me look like a liar by taking it back saying it worked just FINE. Thats total BS. The damn thing wouldn't skim nothing. No matter were I had the water level in the skimmer. Klaus and Jeremy kept on insisting I had power issues, low bioload. All I wanted was a new pump but they had to go out of there way to try and embarass me.

I bought a H&S A200-1260 and I have been extremely pleased with it. The only thing I don't like is the washers get worn down on each side of the impellar and it looks like the top of my impellar is gettting worn out. I only had this skimmer running for two months. Otherwise it runs great. The Deltec AP851 looks like a great skimmer I have used three deltecs and had zero complaints with any of them. You would be happy with the H&S A200-1260 or the AP851. Just stay away from the bubble king.

This is the results from the BK mini 200 in action (About 2 weeks)

And here is my new H&S A200-1260. This is what the BK mini didn't pick up. Power issues and low bioload my hinny.

I think you will be happy with the Deltec or the H&S over the BK mini.

The Reefflo is external only and both skimmers he asked about can be internal.

I just recieved my h&s 200-1260 today, this skimmer is built like a tank. I have had deltec in the past and they were great skimmers also. I would go with h&s are deltec.

Yes, you can either place it in sump or externally.

IMO, the new RD superrmarines aren't even in the same category as the ATB or KZ skimmers. Just because the RD has a cone in it, does not mean that the skimmer performs like a cone skimmer. Take a look at the ATB thread and you'll see what I mean.

That's weird, people are already dissing the new RD supermarines and they aren't even out! Isn't that like saying the 2015 vette is going to be slower then this years?

The supermarines i thought were not supposed to be replacements to the deluxe's. From what i remember Klause saying that the deluxe will still be made.
Not only is the cone in the new supermarines theres a cone at the top of the skimmer body before the neck. Granted its not a ATB, KZ pure cone, But i have not seen anything drastic enough to say the 100%cones are the way to go. Sure bubbles rise in a cone, Theres a bottleneck at the top as well which I dunno is better or not. The vids i seen of the cones look to me they have a downdraft in the body.
I believe all skimmers do, but the cones i seen had the most noticable. Dunno how much will hurt IF any but i think its worth noting.
I am not dis'ing ATB/KZ in the least this is just my opinion.
Anywho I dont see any cone style being better than the other right now, Its still too early. Till i see them in person running i'll hold off on my opinion.
