Blu-Ray vs HD DVD

Which is better?
Are young kids movies available like regular dvds, mainly Disney and stuff like that, for the young kids kinda stuff.

Which brands are better?

Also wanting to know if there's BRD recorders out there yet

Thanks for any input

As far as which is better its a wash. About the same pic/sound quality. But I think HDDVD will win no question.

I vote for Blu Ray simply for the fact that they have a large disk space, up to 50 gb. The only draw back is each blank is expensive.

If you are looking for kids movies, you may conside Blu Ray as Disney has choose to release their HD moie only on Blu Ray.

I vote HD-DVD due to the bullying tactics deployed by the BluRay team players. Im not a fan of consumer defeatism.

Sadly, Disney chose to exclusively liscence their product to BluRay.

From Wiki regarding HD-DVD, "A 51 GB triple-layer spec has been approved, however no movies are currently scheduled for this disc type"

IIRC Blu ray are more destructible.

DISCLAIMER : I own both and have for a while, as well as a healthy collection of titles for both formats. IME HD-DVD slightly edged out BluRay in terms of PQ, however, I have an interlaced tv so have not judged them side by side on a progressive set.

I'm under the impression that a Blu-Ray player will play them all including HD-DVD but the HD-DVD won't play Blu-Ray, am I wrong?
Looking at Blu-Ray mainly because the disc seem to be widely out there
I've also thought not to even go this way since the disc more expensive and not really something a toddler should be handiling if you know what I mean.

Great input guys

I believe HD-DVD is most likely to win this version of the betamax/vhs battle...

believe it our not, the porn industry is (and has been) the leading predictor of which technology will win out...

I recently read an article about the current battle between Blu-ray and Hd-DVD and how they compared it to the VHS vs Beta battle. The said the determing factor in deciding that VHS won was the Porn industry. When they decided to go with VHS it sealed the fate for Beta.

In this current battle it said the Porn Industry has chosen Blu-ray. For whatever that's worth.

I purchased an HD DVD player because it was cheaper. (Plus, I received $350 in free HD movies with my $299 purchase.) If both formats survive, I'll either add a Blu-Ray player or perhaps a dual player. For now, the dual players are too expensive.

My kids want a PS 3 for Christmas. It brings a Blu-ray player in it. That made the decision for me.

It may be, but heck you get a PS 3 game system and a Blu-ray player for 399. The XBOX 360 can play HD-Dvd videos but you have to add the player for another 150 on top of the 299 price.

Yeah that's crazy, personally I'm a computer gamer, and don't do the console thing. Even the graphics can't keep up to puter, besides I would be able to visit RC without one

Well, I would definately own a HD DVD by now, but Blockbuster has decided to side with Blu-Ray, but barely. They probably have 1 copy of maybe twenty different movies at my local store. I'll have to see more titles available before I shell out the Blu-Ray bucks. Both Blu-Ray and HD-DVD look great on my Samsung 1080P set and both will make standard dvds look better than standard progressive dvd players.

They are both the same different manufacturer's There are no machines in the USA that paly them both yet. There are machines in China that do. They have not made the US market yet and will be near a year before they do. Hold out you can buy one that plays both soon.

I like blu-ray simply because the PS3 is able to play them, I get a gaming system and a HD video player for the same price of $399. I think that is going to be the deciding factor for a lot of people under 30.

Which Blu-Ray player, other than a dedicated dual format one, plays HD-DVD? It is cheaper to buy a standalone HD-DVD player and a PS3 than a dual format machine. The Toshiba HD-DVD player I bought also came with a coupon for five free disks. That actually rendered the cost of the unit to a negligible point for my wallet. It did not come close to offsetting half the value of the PS3.

EDIT : just saw you are in the U.K. and that may change the availability of players signifigantly. Also I was born in Neath. Iechyd Da !

Steve, 1080p is what it goes to

Actually looking at the LG BH200 which plays both found it for $799.00

Still debating whether I want to jump in both feet first
