Add a yellow tang to my tank?

I currently have 1 Z. desjarnii, 1 A. nigricans, 1 C. strigosus, and 1 P. hepatus in my tank (500 gal). I also have a Siganus unimaculatus rabbitfish. I purchased a yellow tang about a year ago to put into the 90 gal FOWLR I was setting up. I put the tang into the 50 gal coral frag tank attached to my 500 while I finished setting up the 90 gal. With the tank full of live rock and ready for fish I decided that 1 tank took enough time and decided to sell the 90 gal. The yellow tang is still in my coral frag tank.

Now I'm trying to decide if I dare put it into the tank with the other tangs or if I should just look to sell or give it away. Do you think the other tangs would allow a newcomer? The sailfin and rabbitfish are larger and a couple of the tangs are similar in size to the yellow. Right now there are occassional minor skirmishes between the tangs but nothing major and all are growing well.

If it was my tank I would do it, but there is always a risk. Sounds like you have room for it. How mad would you be if it didn't work out?

I would go for it as well. How aggressive is your Sailfin? I've seen some that were pretty docile, and others which were a serious pain. That would probably be the one fish that concerned me a bit.

Mostly I would be worried about not being able to get the yellow tang back out. The tank has plenty of room- alot of swimming room. Hiding places are fewer than the "average" similar size tank though as I have less live rock than usually used. I have 2 G. melanospilos angels in QT that will be going into that tank. If I move the YT in I would do it at the same time as the angels to create a diversion. I've heard yellow tangs can hold their own pretty well, but he would really be outnumbered.

Actually, the sailfin has generally been pretty docile. Only recently has he started asserting his authority a bit more. He is afterall the largest fish in the tank. He no longer lets the white face or kole harrass him. Mostly though he is "more bark than bite" and just reminds the others he is now boss.
