Seeing as it would seem we have a nice group of people here that are well into their angelfish, could I post a question.......

Of the "large" angelfish that are commonly kept, which "tend" to grow the most / biggest?

I am under the impression that the French is about the fastest grower and ultimately the biggest in a home aquarium...... I know most, such as emporers are meant to get 16"...... but I have never heard of anyone whose Emporer outgrew a 180...... the only two I have heard of getting BIG are the queen and the french.

Matt

Yea the queen, blue, gray, french, passer, emperor, blue face, and koran can all get over 15 inches and will need a 180+ when they are fully mature. But your right, as far as body size the queen, gray, french, and blue will all get huge and will make a 180 look small.

i think that it not just body size you need to look at the they behaviour and territory!! Although full grown emperor mite be just ok physical size(i thing they are mite not be) is it really happy in a 180g?

True, but if we go into territory sizes, we could never keep large angelfish or tangs in captivity. I think if you start with a small fish, they will adapt to the tank. Plus they dont have to wonder around for food like they do in the wild, so there territory is gonna be smaller. But I do agree, a 220 or higher would make an emperor happy. And a 240+ would be min for a full grow queen, and gray.

this thread is as good as any...

Hey guys, I'm wondering if anyone can help me track down an angel. The angel used to be an avatar for a member here, that I remember as a frequent postera couple of months ago.

I'll try to desribe the best I can, The angel was large, and has very bright orange around the edges of his body, with a very silver, almost metallic looking center area. It's shape was close to a blue face or emp.

I've looked long and hard, both for the member or the angel but no luck. I didn't really care too much about angels then, but I'm quite interested in them now and remember that particular one being awesome. Any ideas?

That was me.
It was a Genicanthus Personatus male. I have only know of one or two that have been collected in the last 5 years and they were sold in Japan for over $10,000/pair. From what I hear that are currently not being collected due to the depths that they are known to habitate.
Here is the pic that was in my avatar.

From what I have heard they are also not the easiest angel to keep and are reluctant to acclimate to captivity often refusing to eat prepared foods. They need a more temperate tank preffering cooler water since they are collected at 400' + depths and I imagine that they can easily suffer from decompression issues during collection like most other Genicanthus species.

He's a good 5". Amzing how fast it's growing, and espeically the color changes. He's got noticeable diffrence from the last pic, which was only 1 week ago.
