Arrow Anybody out there good with electrical???

Well i hope someone out there can help me solve my problem. I went into my room and unplugged my girlfreinds computer charger and the lights went off.
First thought... kind of weir and this might get expensive. The weird part is that the only outlet that works is one that i think is wired to the others. Is this possible?

Attached is a crude diagram of the room. The black box is the outlet that works and all the clear boxes are not functional.
Please some kind electricain out there, if you can help a poor college student out i would love it!

2 ideas- Are the others on a GFI that tripped? The working one could be before the GFI. Do both sockets on the outlet work? If you break the tab, you can wire one outlet to 2 different sources-one hot and one to a switch, for example.

I have no idea - but I do have my own electrical question:

Circuit breaker kept tripping - now the power is out and the breaker isn't tripped anymore... Should I replace the breaker?

REb, you were on the money. Only one GFI outlet in the whole house and it was tripped. Spent three hours taking all the outlets appart. Booooo
Thanks

Jamesurq -- what kind of load are you putting on that breaker and what's the breaker rated at? Most likely you are overloading the circuit for the breaker to trip. I'm assuming this because you stated that since the power is out the breaker stopped tripping..and (again assuming) when you turn on the power then breaker pops....

No idea - but it only runs overhead lighting - no outlets. So it should be okay. The house is new - so no additional lights were added overstressing the breaker. It only started happening in the last few weeks. It's got a ceiling fan with 5 bulbs. 2 recessed spots, and one additional overhead light with 3 bulbs...

I would assume it's a 15 AMP. Do they generally break like that? I mean - it's stuck in the "on" position and no juice...

I would think it would break and be stuck in the tripped position.

Maybe it's just a defective breaker.

I assume you've flipped it to the off position and then back, right? I know my breakers do not flip to the off position, they just "flip". Then I get to flip each one until I find the correct one.

Could also be a break in the feed line before or after the breaker.... Kind of hard to tell without hooking up a meter.... Test the power coming out of the breaker with a meter and see if you have any. I would think it would be after the breaker because you stated that the breaker use to trip... Maybe a loose wire...

Seems like it's a messed up breaker. But the best way to find out is to test for voltage / amperage via a multimeter or equivalent. Test it before the breaker and after the breaker....if their's juice before and none after...it's most likely the breaker (15A breaker at home depot will run under 20 dollars)....But what you should be concern about is why the old breaker was constantly tripping in the first place. There could be something wrong in the wiring installation somewhere that's causing it....In most cases it's not and it's just a defective breaker...But I would check just in case...I wish I can be more help...but it's I'm assuming things here and it's not a very accurate way of diagnosing problems.
