As far as I know, Japanese acans are still illegal to import into the U.S. I dont know why any retailer would publicly say they have japanese acans at all. Its definitely not worth the jail time, whatever the cost per polyp.

beautiful aussie acans man.

Key word, Import.

They are illegal to cross US boarders/take out of Japanese boarders...

They are oddly enough, NOT illegal to own or sell once they are past the boarders.

Its stupid, I know!

I think US Customs and US Fish and Game would disagree with you. But thats another thread/topic altogether. Lets get back to these beautiful, worthless corals we have spent so much bandwidth talking about.

Thought i might comment on Aussie Acans

The ones in my post I collected recreationally (as frags mostly - a few whole colonies) in an area that is off limits to commercial collectors (AFAIK)

I have NEVER seen colours like them in any of our LFS here. Always boring browns with occasional bits of green or red. If you search the Aussie forums you will find very few ppl have fabulous Acans here - before or after exporting was allowed.

Im wondering why/how all of a sudden collectors are finding the fabulous colours that you folk are posting?! I suspect the increase in profits for them arent great enough to justify significant change in collector behaviours (eg distance offshore they are prepared to go)

Surely these colour variations would have been targeted for collection/ sale here in oz before exporting started - we do prefer buying, and pay more for, colours over browns too!

confused...

Those are nice jeremy. That seems very odd that better colors are making it here. Has to be a reason for them coming here and is most likely money.

My point is that I have never seen really nice colours in LFS' here - obviously i havent seen every LFS, but our Australian forum "tank journals" have VERY few attractive acans.

Im thinking that maybe you are being sold Acans from other regions badged as Australian??

Either that or the best Aussie Acans have always been "exported" legal or not?!

Just seems like suddenly you folks have access to "Aussie" acans the likes of which WE have never seen.

Then again maybe our keenest & most cashed up Aquarists have arrangements with collectors & arent keen on sharing pics of their bling online??

Theres a conspiracy here somewhere im tellin ya!!!

Woah - what a sweet collection! So you were able to get those diving (collecting legally) out of Aussie waters - but sellers can't collect them to resell? Is it legal for recreational divers to collect corals there?

I've seen some nice ones recently at some online vendors - still pricey but not really crazy prices. That one from Louis Tsai is Austrailian? I've never heard of him, I'll have to find the search button.

It seems like it would be just as easy to ship them out of Indo where its legal - then badging them as Aussie corals.

Great collection, anyway!!!!

You might have a good point there jeremy. What are the collectors considering Aussie waters. Call them what they want, some of the color combos are amazing.

Im not sure why you would think that?!
I have one 4' tank with about 30 colonies/frags. As stated they were collected recreationally and as such would be illegal for me to sell.
The time, effort and risk of trying to export these to the US would far outweigh the meagre profit that would be made.

My coral is not for sale - please do not ask.

Shawn which one do you think is a faviid?

Jeremy,

I would hope no one is pm'ing you asking you to do illegal things. Consider yourself very lucky to able to go cherry pick the GBR. We are all envious.

What is the lighting of choice in Australia? I have an 8 bulb t5 tek light on my 75 gal and 2 - 250 watt mh's with 2 vho actinics on my 120.
