Aqua C Pro Urchin skimmer
Would the Aqua C Pro Urchin skimmer be my best choice for an in-sump skimmer for a 55 gallon tank with moderate to heavy load? If not, what would be your choice for an in-sump skimmer for a 55 gallon?

I would recommend a Euroreef or ASM skimmer. The Aqua C is a Remora and a lot of people on this forum don't think there good skimmers.

The Urchin is among the worst in sump skimmers you could choose. There are many better choices.

A Euro-Reef RS-80 would be a good one.

Aqua C Urchin Pro is a really good skimmer, don't let the options of few make your decision. Everyone's application is different, and what is good for one person may not be good for another. The skimmer has been popular in the market for a long time because of it's decent price and it's compact size. If have decent amount of room that you can dedicate to the skimmer, then maybe the skimmer isn't the best choice, it's really good choice for those with limited space either in sump or external (remora). I wish you luck with your choice, don't feel compelled to spend your life saving on a fish tank,

Marine Depot prices
Aqua C Urchin Pro with Mag 3 $227 ER RS 80 $238 For an extra $11, you get a far superior skimmer. You can get an Octopus NW-150 which is also a far better skimmer for $170
