Eshopps Overflows
DFS has these new overflows on their site. I'm wondering if they're any good. I have a life reef on my 75g and I'm switching my 125g to salt and I need a second life reef.

I would stick with the Lifereef. I dont know the Eshopps but i do know first hand how good and reliable the Lifereefs are

I dont like the Eshopps. I've seen several posts now of people having problems with them. They are no Lifereef. They have a very shallow skimmer box, short U Tube, high rear baffle. They are not set up to have a strong siphon like a Lifereef.

I love eshopps. I used one for quite some time. Never failed me. I don't know anything about any other overflows becauce it was the first one I used and the only one. But I do know that when I need another overflow I'll certainly look at the Eshopps because I'm familiar with them. But I'll check out the Lifereefs too since the other posters have mentioned them.
Let me add that it's really just a basic U tube overflow box. I don't know how varied a U tube overflow can be from another. They all work on the same principle.

They do work on the same principle of a siphon. There are details that make a good siphon vs a weak one that are not unique to an aquarium overflow. Lifereef has paid more attention to these details than others. Glad your Eshopps is working well for you. Some people have not been so lucky.

Let me add this... I just looked up the Lifereef overflow box. I'm impressed! Of course I cannot recommend it since I have never used it or seen it. But I'm definitely impressed and I will looking into these when I get my 36g corner tank ready to go. Very nice!

I just looked at the site and see they have a new smaller model which might work well for a 36G. The other models are pretty big and would take up a lot of space in a tank that size.

You could also get an Amiracle overflow box. I have run mine for 4 years with no problems. They are built very sturdy just like the lifereef for almost 1/2 the cost.....

Yes, Amiracles are also very good. I had two of them. Very reliable overflow. They are less expensive than a Lifereef, but will handle much less flow. It takes two Amiracles to handle the flow of one Lifereef. Its that paying attention to details thing.

I have an Eshopps on my 29 and a Lifereef on my 75. Wish I had a lifereef one on both. When I first set up the Eshopps one it would lose siphon each time I turned up the main pump. Like sjm817 said, the U is too short and the box too shallow. I had to add a piece of PCV to the inside part of the U-Tube so that it would keep its siphon.
