Can someone identify this blenny?
I've had him for over a year. No one at the fish store knew what he was. I would really be amazed if anyone could tell me!! Sorry the pictures are the clearest I could get.
  Does anyone know what he is??? He reminds me of a lizard, he's got a neat pattern and a metallic blue looking strip that runs in specks down his body. I wanted to post a picture of my tank for you guys to see as well  And this is one of my purple firefishes

I agree, its Salarias fasciatus (lawnmower blenny), though hard to be 100% without a clear face shot

That guy kind of looks like this guy, with the X markings on the body

its not a lawnmower... nothing at all like a lawnmower.
and it resembles that pic happyface but its not exact.. close though |

Well, I wouldn't say its nothing like a lawnmower. Coloring and pattern and size are very similar. Maybe some better photographs would be helpful.

It looks like Crossosalarias macrospilus, commonly called Tongan.

W3ish3ing that is him Omg!!!! do you have one like that!??? what is he? I am soo impressed. holy crap this is exciting!
happy your pic might actually be the same thing as the above pic. The one above though looks fatter and that makes his pattern look more defined. I described it to my fish people as a "laced pattern" the color brown and the blue dashes seem to be laced through the body. The brown patches seem to be box shaped but I can see how in some pics it might look more like an X. Anyways what is he!!! |

The red warkings on the head are also correct. Mine is just like that!

After some more reasearch I have decided that the pic that happy put up is something different. When you look closely there are little red specks all over the body of that species ( the females anyway)
My fish is definitely the one displayed by W3ish3ng. At least I know someone else has seen this guy before. Write back soon! |

Look up red spot & orange spot blenny, see if that's it.

yup, i used to have him for over 1 years plus but lost it during a tank transfer
however, i am sad to say, i do not know what blenny is that, there were 2 in the store when i first saw them. my friend and i took both, thinking of them as lawnmower blenny. its only when i did a photoshoot then i realise they look very different as they are more slim and lean, more markings but overall color is around the same as lawnmower. hope someone can do a id for you soon cheers |

this sucks. no one knows what they are. they do not have the same color as a lawnmower. From the pic you see that hes very colorful. Lawnmowers are pretty dull.
Search the web you will find nothing. I'm beginning to think they are rare. I would go back to the fish store and ask them what they really were!.... They shouldnt be selling them as lawnmowers. Plus this guy is small and those other guys get pretty big. Oh well I give up trying. |

The blenny I have is the one seen above in W3sh3ng's photograph. That is the single best picture of one that I have seen. He doesnt know what it is because he thought he was buying a lawnmower blenny. These fish are in stores rarely and people seem to have no idea what they are.
Everything I have searched looks nothing like the picture above. I am still on the hunt. I know someone out there has to know what he is. |
