anyone ever use grow lights on tank?
I was searching for t-5 lighting and came across growing lights....anyone ever use this type of lighting?

awsome question, i have a grow light on my fuge and it puts out alot of heat but havnt really noticed any growth but its hard to see any growth when you look at it 20 times in a day

From what I have researched anything over the 6500K spectrum will promote growth, depending on how many lumens they put out.

I suspect that the spectrum is too red for a nice tank, but you could try them. It doesn't look like a very high quality unit, and it doesn't have a good reflector setup, so it's not going to be all that efficient, despite the advertising copy.

I ran growlights for a while, but not in t-5s. The color isn't as nice when you are viewing them but it seems good for the macros. You can always swap the bulbs out or do a combination if you don't like it. if you do decide to go with it, try running a blue and daylight in the first two slots and grow bulbs in the last two. I found that combination wasn't altogether unpleasing as it kept your eyes more focused on the front of the tank where most of the activity is happening anyway.
FWIW If I want growth I run full spectrum bulbs, even on my 10gal freshwater tanks. |
