opinion on current USA sunpod

as of now i have a 20g long with 2x24w T5 and im interested in getting the 150w HQI metal halide fixture with the leds to use with my current light setup...would this be too much light? is it a good choice of equipment? are there better fixtures for the price?...my tank is mostly softies and LPS (frogspawn, hammer, zoas, bubble corals) by the way

Not sure if too much light, but I have bought a couple of the units and have been very impressed by them so far.

ive never had MH, but to me it seems like if youre only keeping softies and LPS the T5s should be fine. you didnt say wether or not you were moving towards SPS. youll also want to consider heat issues (chiler possibly?) as well as electric costs.

ive always heard the sunpods to be a good choice if you decide to go that route. id consider the cons though too.

the only issue with a single 150 over the 20 long is the reflector on the sunpod isnt going to give you enough spread to cover the whole length of the tank with out raising it atleast 6 inchs over the tank and then your going to have light spilling all over the place and you t5's wont need to be that high. plus a 20 long is not really wide enough for two t5 reflectors and a sunpod.

its not that it would work there are just better solutions

why not just add two more t5's? a 20 long is pretty shallow and t5 would be the most effective lighting. with better coverage..

my reason for more lighting is better growth but i do want to start keeping SPS...right now i could just double my lighting for another $100 so i might just do that...i never really considered the heating and coverage factors so thanks for the input!..also would 4x24w T5 be sufficient to have SPS or some clams?...btw lights are only about 13-14" from sandbed

Certainly, you could keep sps, clams etc with this setup. Just make sure you acclimate them properly to the light.
