this darn thread.. lol. ok, I had to go home and mess with my 6025 tonight.. first I started by cleaning my koralias (#3 and #2) which were VERY dirty.. wow what a difference in flow.. then I decided what the heck, let's mod the 6025.. WOW.. 10 mins of snipping = oodles of unlocked flow potential... 10 more mins of aiming and checking xenia and GSP for over-flow and bingo. and I thought my flow was dialed in last night.. lol. not even close.

Kinda makes you think what the hell Tunze was thinking releasing the nanos like they are doesn't it....

I have an older 6025 (from Nov. 2006) and a 6055.
Which mod can I do with the 6055 that works with the original prop? And are there step by step instructions for the 6025 mods? I inherited a free dremel set, but am not quite sure which of the accessories to use. My 6025 doesn't have the little fish guard. Is that an essential part for the mod if I cut down the length of the shroud? And where can I order a new shroud, in case I mess up the current one? Also, I'm running a Tunze 6000. Is there anything I can do to increase the flow on that one? Different shroud? Cut out parts of the original shroud? |

step by step are in the first 1-2 pages, use a cut-off wheel, fish guard is not necessary at all, order a new shroud at www.tunze.com

So after reading, I realize there really isn't any reason to upgrade to the 6045s. I already have two 6025s and I plan on trimming the inside outake area of these. I'd trim the intake strainers too, but I'm afraid that my cleaner gobies might get sucked in. Just doing this will increase the outflow to around 1000gph correct?
I also have two 6055 on a multicontroller. Whats the consensus on the best way to mod these? That kindof got hazy in the middle of the thread.

Thanks for the confirmation. What about my 6055s?

Gotcha. Wasn't sure if there were any additional "easy" mods for the 6055s, and with those costing alot more, I wanted to be sure. I guess a replacement shroud only costs $12 so it really isn't that big of a deal. I'm just always nervous though chopping up expensive equipment.

what about installing some vanes in the pump outlet path to swirl the water more, and perhaps that would encourage a larger stream path. Would be more turbulent and lower the flow but for smaller cube tanks this would be a good effect. Basically just leave a spare prop from another nanostream in the pump outlet path. If the pump was on 24/7 in would keep the prop blasted against the outlet screen and the nice curves on the prop might twist the water out more. But then again maybe not, as the primary prop is already curved...

Hi,
can someone who has done this mod do me a big favor and put up a pic of the dremel attachments that work best for this mod? I inherited a used dremel, but a lot of the attachments are missing, and without the manual I'm having a hard time figuring out which ones to use. |

Thanks!
I'll give that a try. I have two bits with a ball, and will use the smaller one of the two. What do you use to smooth the cut areas, and did you use the same bit to cut the slots into the bottom of the cover? |

Which type of diamond bit?
I looked them up, and there is a whole slew of different shapes. |

Diamond bits will work but aren't necessary. The cool thing about diamond tipped ones is that they'll cut glass.
Use what you already have, I say.

basically anything you can fit will work
at my friends house i used a drill bit in a dremel to cut the inside out, heck i used tin snips to snipit out and bleeding thought, its not metal, its plastic

I ended up using a cut-off wheel, and a little sanding bit to smooth things a little.
It's not pretty, but it's working! |

I removed the shaft inside on one of my 6055s and I don't really notice a difference from the unmodded one. I then removed every third rung of the guard on the front cover. Still didn't notice much of a difference. Pretty disappointed right now that I chopped up my pump. I guess its only $15 to replace it, just bummed that it didn't improve the pump outflow. Any ideas?

I have two 45's, and a 25, all modded with the inner shoud cut out. I was going to buy a dremmel for this, but ended up using wire cutters/snips to cut out pieces. Though it is not totally polished, it's on the inside so you don't see it. I wouldn't bother working with power equipment unless you have it available, as the snips worked really well, and took 5 minutes, no kidding. The mod works very well, and my pumps are on 24/7. I recommend this simple mod to increase the flow.

has anyone had any problems with the plastic on the clamp part breaking or becoming brittle? I have had my 6025 for about 5 months maybe and so far the tiny clips that attach the clamp to the magnet broke. I fixed that with a bunch of super glue gel so no biggie. But today I moved the position of the ball and the arm of the clamp broke. I am going to try to fix it since I am not to happy with the mounting anyway. But I was curious if anyone else had issues with that particular part.
I have noticed that the fish guard grid is cracked in the middle as well and it was not handled. Not sure if a snail munched though it or not. Perhaps there is too much flow on it now that it is modded

I had 2 of them break on me. Tunze is now making them out of more flexible plastic, so they are breaking less. I sent an email to Tunze and explained that I had already replaced two of the clamps. He said that he would send me 4 new clamps (I have 2 6025s and 2 6025s). They actually just arrived in the mail today. They are seem a little sturdier than the old ones, and also a little more flexible.
Go to the Tunze website and get the email for the USA and send him an email. I'm sure he'll correct the problem.
