|
what to feed hermits
started my tank with some green star polyps and 5 red leg hermits tank is a 14 g biocube, i have been putting in some fish food every 3rd day is this ok for the hermits to eat to survive also i have a piece of polyps that doesn't want to attach to anything any suggestions

They'll eat wqhatever comes their way. Algae, a small, small pinch of flakes 2x a week will be fine too to supplement.
As for the polyps, if they're on a plug of some sort (or a small rock) just glue the plug somewhere. They'll spread. If it's just a mat of polyps (no hard substrate), you can glue that too or use a rubber band to keep them in place for a week or so. Trust me they'll grow (na dgrow, and grow, and grow...)

or you can place a small cup at the bottom of your tank with some rubble in it. Put the polyp in there and cover with a screen so it won't flow out. Put the cup in area of low flow to keep polyp from being disturbed. Within a few days (sometimes weeks) the polyp will attach to the rubble that can then be placed where you like in the tank.

The hermits are opportunistic - they'll eat whatever comes their way. It could be uneaten food, a snail or another hermit.
Given adequate conditions, the GSP will spread. Be careful not to place it somewhere it could spread all over your rocks. GSP - much like Xenia - can grow rapidly if not kept in check or on an isolated area.

a little super glue will work for the polyp. thats fine for the hermits - they seem to find things to eat somehow.
