Giesemann Infinity or the Planet Elos?

Well, I have narrowed my lighting down to two options, the Giesemann Infinity seen here: http://www.giesemann.co.uk/infinity.htm or the Planet Elos 2.

Here are my thoughts about the two:

Giesemann Pros: Awesome looking, spans the full length of the tank, 2x250 d/e hqi, 4x54 watt t-5's, and can reposition the location of the halides within the pendant.

Cons: Warranty work is iffy (you need to repair it yourself and send Giesemann the bill)

Elos Pros: Decent looking, 2x250 hqi 4x39 watt t-5's, built in fan, warranty work can be done by Jesse at his shop.

Cons: Doesn't span length of tank (need to raise it higher) and smaller t-5 bulbs. Not as elegant as the Giesemann Infinity.

Both great looking, sweet fixtures. I'd almost do the Elos just based on the support you'll get. Have you checked out the Sfiligoi as well?

Yes, I hear that the sfiligoi had a few problems. I think the Elos sounds like a winner.

Hi Sang, I think you should go with your gut feeling on this. I would hate to see you spend a lot of money on a fixture based on someone else's opinion and then it's not what you expected.

I cannot speak for the other Spectra owners like Edward and Treg but I can say my Spectra has not disappointed me in any way. Plus it uses SE bulbs and has larger reflectors.

On the flipside, the Elos planet fixture is solid looking. They use Ice Cap ballasts so you can't go wrong there. Plus the support from Jesse is second to none.

Tough call but I'm sure you'll be happy with whatever you decide!

Base on looks only, Geisseman Just hope that nothing goes wrong with your fixture the first 12 months.

theres a post here at RC where some guy reballasted his giesemann infinity with ice cap's.

he gutted his $1000 dollar fixture and rewired it to make it better.

I definitely love mine! I felt like I made the right choice. No problems at all for 8 or so months on the Giesemann Spectra. I do like that the Infinity bulbs/reflectors can be moved. Thats one thing I wish the spectra had.

I think Giesemann is using icecaps on all it's US fixtures now due to some early problems with the transformers.

I just wish I knew how large the reflectors are on the Infinity. I had the Nova 2 fixture about 9 years ago, and the spread was horrible due to the small reflector.

I remember when I had a ballast go out on one of my planet fixtures. I called Jesse and I had one on my doorstep in no time. It was freaking awesome!, and really easy to fix. The cooling on the planet works extremely well also.
