"quick" frag tank setup?
I have a nanocube 12 with upgraded PC lighting that I'm thinking about turning into a frag tank for softies, mushrooms and LPS. I don't have the option of putting it in line with my main system.
I'm thinking about adding 10-15lbs of established LR from my main tank into it for filtration and no sand. Am I correct that I should be able to add frags to this rather quickly (within a week or so since there's a swap coming up) or am I asking for trouble if I don't re-cycle the tank with a damsel or something. |

Firstly, I wouldn't ever reccomend cycling/re-cycling a tank with a damsel or any other fish for that matter
Secondly, I'll be doing something very similar, either with a 5 or 10 gallon tank, whatever I can swing when I get back to Lansing. While it is possible to assemble a frag holding tank fairly quickly its best to setup the system and monitor it for any signs of cycling. That said, I think as long as the live rock doesnt have much die off (ie. is kept within a reasonable amount of the tanks current temperature, isnt kept out of water for very long at all, etc.) you should be fine. Thats what I'm doing when I return to Lansing (I assume for the same swap ) this Monday. |
