looking into dripping kalk

I believe i am gonna start dripping kalk (Balls or Wages pickling lime) this weekend, so i can experiement and pay attention longer into the night hours. I am gonna build one of the diy kalk drippers outlined in reefkeeping magazine. Havent figured out what type of container to use (2 liter pop bottle, milk jug, bucket). I am worried about the container tipping over as it empties.

If I loose about a 1/2 gallon of water a day due to evaporation, then i need to replace this (i currently due so every other day). In doing this, should I begin with adding only a half teaspoon of pickling lime (1/2 teaspoon for 1/2 gallon).

I will drip at night. Should I monitor calcium levels in my reef as I do not currently. My main concern is PH as it hovers around 8.0 often. Reef consists of leathers, shrooms, zoas, xenia, torch, galaxia, capnella and a small candy cane frag. Any tips, or do I seem to have a good grasp.

Yes, starting at 1/2 teaspoon per 1/2 gallon of to off water is a fine concentration.

You should ocassionally check calcium and alkalinity, whether you use limewater or something else.
