Pre-filter die kalk solution?

Hi Randy,
I use an Aqualifer for my kalk dripping pump. Recently, I’ve had issues with the velocity of the pump. After running a vinegar/water solution thru it, it’s fine but will start slowing down again every couple of days. There is a pre-filter available and was wondering if the pre-filter will have on any effect the kalk solution?

Thanks Randy!!

David

A filter should be OK, depending on what it is, but I do not know of any that you can just pop in line.

I'm not familiar with an Aqualifer. Is the limewater cloudy or clear when it is being pumped?

Randy,
An Aqua lifter is a vacuum pump, with an inney and an outey flow. It is the recommend pump to use on the the CPR overflows to remove air. They have a pre-filter available made out of what seems to be a nylon sponge type material enclosed in a clear plastic container with two nipples on the top.

The kalk effluent that I'm pumping is clear.

Thanks Randy!!

Does it suck air through the limewater? That wouldn't be good.

No. The suction side of the this vacuum pump is attached to a hose that runs into my kalk solution bucket. The prefilter would be right before the pump on the suction line. The outflow has a hose, with a valve regulator on it, that feeds into my sump.

This vacuum pump is designed for air or liquid.

Sorry for any confusion.

No problem. I'm just trying to understand why it clogs so fast. I've not used a pump like that before. My reef Filler can go a very long time (a year or more) without clogging significantly.

Is it especially warm inside of it? Lime is less soluble in warmer water, so a warm pump part may precipitate stuff more rapidly.

Not sure about the warmth inside of it Randy. I have it set up on a timer and float switch so it only drips after lights out. I will check in it early tommorow morning. Here is a link from MD to the pump if that will help.

I do appreciate your help!

Thanks. I've not seen it before, and I can't tell much about what the inside looks like.

Maybe I'll take it apart this evening.

And with any luck, I'll be able to put it back together without too many left over parts.
