I dose with Gin. Bombay sapphire. Hint of vermouth and a spray of oils from a lemon peel. Gently mixed in a shaker...never shaken. Doesn't makes it out of the kitchen so I haven't seen the effect on my reef yet.

i thought only absinthe was illegal until recently, some place in the bay area now makes it. It was illegal because people started neglecting buying wine since all they wanted was absinthe...

but in all seriousness, I believe the ethanol that comes from the vodka helps reduce nitrates by building up a huge nitrate reducing bacteria. The bacteria multiply like crazy with ethanol. The amount is very little, and you'll definitely need to read the exact dosage amounts.

again, you can get the same affect/results by dosing sugar. And either method you want to build up the dosage slowly. It will help keep nitrates and even phosphates down (it does in our tank.. at least according to our hanna phosphate meter and Elos nitrate test kit).
