Maybe I'm partial to the unfinished tank?

My unfinished build!

It's the love of messing with the tank itself that gets in the way of finishing the woodwork!!! I have the same problem. Now, where did I put that molding......

Anybody seen my sheetrock screws?...

I wish you people wouldn't encourage him. I hate him and all he stands for. Make him stop, don't make him continue.

Let's start a threads "Vote to Ban Melev"

The tank above is a great tank, but definitely not TOTM material. And so if this is a thread where you vote for a TOTM that belongs to a person who has done a lot, in your opinion, to advance the hobby, I'd like to nominate Bernie Marcus' tank. It's the one in downtown Atlanta.

How about Sump of the Month, I'd give him a vote for that. There is no uncompleted woodwork on the sump right?

Sorry for the previous issue I was unaware of the anonymity of the process and the fact my links wouldn't work

So I will respectively shut up now as this is not a popularity contest as previously mentioned...

How about some crazy actinic pictures? Tonight as the lights were about to shut off, I thought I'd take a few pictures. Since it is actinics only, I set my camera's white balance as if I was running 20,000K bulbs. The colors are crazy looking, but still kind of neat. You may want to put on some sunglasses.

The Tyree frag that has been healing up for a few months from AEFW attacks.

This is another Tricolor acropora, surrounded by Bytor zoanthids.

And a few reef shots.

A. secale

Okay, totally crazy colored, and not quite as bright in real life. Or maybe I should say the corals are bright, but crisp. The camera can't quite nail that unless I used slower exposure and a tripod, but my fish were pretty active since I'd just fed 20 minutes earlier and would have caused some blurs.

The problem is that Marc has way too many posts and has been around for so long and has helped so many people here. He needs to be a new member that has done nothing for the betterment of the hobby and site, then he might get a TOTM honor.

I apologize if I offend anybody but I've seen TOTM from "members" that have not done an 1/20th of the helping around here, their tanks don't look 1/2 as good and still get a TOTM just because somebody found a picture of their tank in another board. Yes they look good but I thought the TOTM was an honor given to active members that have a worthy tank.

I understand that this might not be the place to bring this up, and if any mod feels like it should be removed please do so, but there's quite a few tanks out there in THIS board that are quite deserving of TOTM honors and IMO Marc's should be first in line.

This of course IMHO. Happy reefin'

There is no doubt that the tank is worthy of the TOTM honors.

We SHOULD ban Melev. He's a part of a website/podcast that has nothing to do with this hobby. How dare he try to help us out!

I agree, Marcs tank deserves TOTM. Only as long as he takes the photos. Love your updated site. I still use your site as a reference every once and a while. Keep it up marc one day you will get voted in TOTM.

I really like what gmann said about TOTM honors. And its likely true. Marc has been around for so long now. Pretty much everyone here on RC knows about him. Yet he has never been nominated.

Marc your tank is stunning and of course I would love to have one like yours.

But the truth is this. How could the December TOTM get nominated over Marcs. I mean there is a night and day difference between them. Obviously Marcs is the upper hand.

So what gmann is saying here is most likely correct. Most TOTM nominations have rarely been heard of on RC. And TOTM is probably kept for those who are new trying to learn and create bueatiful tanks. No point nominating Marcs tank as TOTM because he already knows everything and likely should have an amazing tank right? right? no?

Sometimes things just simply dont make any sense...thats why Im in this hobby

TOTM is somewhat of a popularity process. If I recall correctly, I believe we had a similar thread for Weatherson a few years ago. However, before I mislead anyone into thinking this thread has to split before my tank would be considered --- --- anyone can nominate any tank they like that they've seen on RC. The Reefkeeping Staff review the nominees, and then contact the person if they plan to feature their tank. The person needs to be able to write up a good article detailing their tank, and take very good pictures.

Years ago, I was informed that my 29g was nominated, and I was very excited. Here's what it looked like then:

Shortly thereafter, my appendix ruptured and I didn't even know it for 5 days. I ended up in the hospital with emergency surgery to ascertain the extent of the damage, and they determined I had peritonitis ( a life threatening situation). It took me two months to heal up before I could do anything that involved real exertion, and my 29g slowly went downhill during that time. Had they contacted me again to feature it, I probably would have declined since it was no longer worthy.

For a while, it almost seemed like TOTM owners suffered from some kind of curse. They'd share their amazing tank, and a few months later something horrible would occur. Smiller and MtnDewMan quickly come to mind. I think Weatherson helped remove that curse. Thanks Joseph, and keep up the good work.

Just for all the help and understanding Marc has given us, He should own the ToTm. but again that is just my 2cents
Those last pics of your big tank remind me of the late 70's early 80 L.S.D. Mushroom pictures [Dude can you beleive the colors on that one] (in A Cheech Voice)

He a a great tank there is no doubt about that. He has done tons of things to help others out, if not more then anyone. his desighns are amazing. He is always there to help.. He puts alot into reefing and shares with all. If this was a best reefer of the month I would nominate him. His tank is nice but imo not worthy of totm. All I see when I look at his tank is "POWERHEADS" and I hate the look of them.
