attaching sps to back wall of glass aquarium

Has anyone done this and how? Silicone vs. superglue gel?
Interested in placing some sps colonies direcdly above and along the upper rock line.

Not exactly answering your question, but consider the possiblity of having to move the tank... How will you get the corals off the glass?

I would guess a razor blade or something like that if there is a large amount of silicone. I'm just curious if anybody has. I think it would be a great real estate saver and maybe even provide a 3d effect or optical illusion of greater depth.

I would love to do that, it seems like a few have mentioned that some colonies have grown into the glass and seemingly attached but when it was time to remove them they came off the glass with no effort.

I would love to find someone sucessful in doing this. I have a 110 tall and have a TON of glass room.

My other thought was to mount to the plastic overflow box.

Perfect! Found another website that sells epoxy coated magnets for like .50cents a piece. They are out of stock on the 6 lb size. Epoxy coated will be reef safe right?

I also seem to remember that the corals don't really attach to the glass and that it just comes right off.

Yes,corals dddddoooo attach to glass and just a little wiggle and guess what, it comes right off like it looks on glass buddy.Proof is in the pudding,I simply use gel glue cause it works, less ugly until it encrusts over it.You just need to clean surface with razor and simply apply. The best way I've learned from experiment is apply glue on glass (create a ball on glass) let glue dry (2 minutes no longer)put some on base of frag fresh, then quickly put in water, on ball of glue ,push into ball of glue, and hold for 2 minutes. You can put corals any where and if you gotta move, just BUST off and put were you want elsewhere and let it encrust on that. If you gotta move, ether way what ever encrusts on rocks, etc, you still gotta break off rocks.

that thing IS hard to move (green moray eel).

If you glue green star polyps to wall, rocks, etc what ever acro it comes to touch, in most cases, it will burn sps, so I simply trim back green star polyps and propagate, point is every thing will grow after time, it just takes time and patience, before you know you gotta frag .

I have both green/pink pocillipora and purple monti digitata that have grown on the back wall in an encrusting form, and just now it's starting to grow 'out' away from the glass. All I did was keep the colony touching the glass, and it grew there itself.

I'm debating whether I want to scrape it off, though. It's a calcium/alk sponge and I'd rather have my supplementation going to my more rare SPS than to 'garden variety' species like montipora.

Reef Ceramics makes back wall plates, you could easily attach them on that.

I'm still trying to figure out how I'm going to get this one off my overflow when we move to our new house this summer. It goes up into the overflow teeth, the whole side of the overflow, across the front, and across the back glass.

I would not recommend putting those wall plates in your tank. Detritus get trapped behind them no matter how much flow you have in the tank (take if from a guy with 3 stream and a wave box). I used them in my tank and now they are sitting in a dump. The frag Magnets are way more promising or save some money and use super glue Gel........

I know that sps don.t attach to glass but if you leave the coraline algue on the glass and then stick the sps on the coraline algue it will grow on it and attach on something that is attached onto the glass, no?
just guessing
