I can see your point, but my forest fire from aquatic bliss has that smooth appearance. Their original piece had that appearance also, but in viper's pic it shows the "bumps". I believe some of these ridges can be caused by flow and growth. I've had similar Danaes dipsplay the smooth appearance while encrusting then show these "bumps" in areas where the growth starts outwards.

My tubs superman has the bumps. It really depends on the environment.

I believe species such as the verucossa and venosa have more pronounced bumps and sunken in coralites. I agree as for others, environment plays a big part in what shapes it takes.

Here's an old shot of mine, but I still have a piece of this front and center...

I also have another wild monti I called years ago the cotton candy monti that is similar, but the polyp color was lighter, the base wavered in color all the way to blue purple, and the texture was smoother and less "danae-like"...

This is another one with a similar color scheme I got a few years ago wild I've grown out in my frag tank...

Yeah, the top 2 pics and the bottom 2 pics are dif montis. The top one has more of an olive green look and the bottom one has a neon green look. I aquired the second one by luck about 6 months after i got the 1st one.
