Anyone know jthor2n

I sent a check for a PH Controller (Pinpoint) and Monitor. The check was received on 8/13 and cleared on the 17th. Joe did let me know that the check cleared on the 17th via PM and said he would promptly ship the items. It is 10 days later and I still don't have them. I have not heard from him in a week. Even with the slowest post office shipping it would arrive in 3 days to Pittsburgh.

I know he doesn't frequent the board too often, and may be busy, but I am starting to get concerned. He said he did not want to use paypal because he does not have an account.

Even if he would just let me know that he hasn't had a chance to ship it yet or let me know he shipped it today or will ship tomorrow that would be fine. I would just like some communication. I sell stuff on RC all the time and make sure I send a tracking number as soon as possible. People take a leap of faith when they send money to someone they do not know and I want them to not worry.

Thanks
Ray

don't know him though I haven't been with the club that long...did he tell you he was shipping priority mail? you may have an issue where usps delivered to the wrong address.

but i'd ask for a tracking number from the seller.

He registered in 2004 on NJRC's board but has never made a post.

The only posts I ever recall were for selling things. I have my fingers crossed for you.

Thanks guys.

He hasn't responded to my most recent PM, but he hasn't read it yet either according to the PM tracking. I still have faith that he is going to come through...

He did not actually say. I figure most likely he would send it via the post office (parcel post) as that would probably be the cheapest way. Parcel post from NJ to Pittsburgh is 3 days max.

I think he was selling stuff as he was breaking down a tank for a move so he might be really busy.

Don't know him but you can send him a letter to the mailing address that you sent the check to.

Or contact the authorities in the town he lives in. Mail fraud is serious business.

Thanks Rich, that would be a last resort. My wife works for a local law firm so I have a lot at my disposal.

I still think he is going to come through

I think you only have 30 days to file a complaint so it's better to file and then drop the case when the stuff is delivered. I've read a lot of threads about fraudulent sellers stringing along the buyers until it was to late to file a complaint. Better safe than sorry IMO.

I think Jeff offers some good advice. I didn't jump on this thread to bash someone I only almost dealt with a couple of years ago. But this caught my attention when it dawned on me that he only appears here to sell stuff.

Thanks guys.

Looks like I will be filing....I really did not want it to come to this.

It is pretty interesting to google his user name. He appears all over the place on many different boards and the results are usually the same. Funny he hasn't had time to respond to my emails or read my pm's but he has had time to check his match.com profile in the last 24 hours...

I have had similar troubles in the past both here & on Ebay. Thank fully 99% of the time I pay with a USPS money order because of the added fraud protection. Usually a little reminder to the deadbeat that I paid with a money order and mail fraud is a federal offense handled by the postal police not the over worked local PD gets their attention really quick.

Hope everything works out for you.

I contacted the Mansfield Township Police Department this afternoon and spoke with an officer. They gave me the details that I could file criminal charges under Statute NJSA 2C:20-4 (Theft by deception). I emailed him (Joe Thornton) letting him know that I will be filing these as well as a mail fraud complaint if I do not hear from him.

Hopefully it does not go that far, the choice is his....

Glad to hear it worked out for you. Sorry for your troubles.

Are you in the Pitt club hosting MACNA? Preparations must be getting crazy about now! I can't believe it is just barely a week away. *YIKES*!

Everything works too. I wonder what his intentions were all along?

Yes, I am in the club hosting MACNA, but I have not been very involved in the prep though, new baby and building an addition on my house are taking up all of my free time. I can't believe it is almost here. I knew about it for about 14 months and it seemed so far away!!
