Ordering New Tank

I just got a quote from one of the new sponsors in Canada and it seemed reasonable. The tank will be all glass 96 x 30 x 24 with a Starfire front. The bottom glass will be 5/8" and the sides 1/2". The other well known Aquarium maker in Canada was a little cheaper, but I didn't want to risk the hassles that I read about. The price I got so far was 1800.00 delivered to my door in Maryland. Do you guys think this is a reasonable price?

I priced out very similar tanks, your price is a very good quote. Personally, I would not be comfortable with 1/2" glass on a tank so long, but it is only 24" high. But I'm certainly not an expert on that.

I'm very glad to see you'll be back in the hobby. As I've mentioned on not so cheery thread, I have had your website directory bookmarked for a while.

Thank you Fliger. I'm glad you liked my pics. I originally wanted a 26" and the salesperson said they they would need to use 5/8" glass for that size. He said if I went to 24" then 1/2" could be used. There will be euro-bracing on the bottom and top which should help.

I decided to pay an extra 100.00 and go with 5/8" for the sides, back and bottom. The front Starfire will be 1/2"

Good luck Algae, how much more is it for 5/8" on the front panel? Hopefully some of your local friends saved your SPS and you can cat it going again. You had one of the best colored SPS tanks here on RC, IMO. You also had the coolest ricordea - that multicolor - did it make it?

What lighting are you going to use? What are you planning for circulation, and overflow?

For anyone who wants to see some great SPS, check out his website.

Unfortunately Starfire doesn't come in 5/8".

I still have my prop tanks and sump going. I have about 30 frags and 20 colonies ready to go.

That got sold. I didn't loose much at all, but I sold all I could for cheap.

Very nice, can't wait to see it. I have the 12-2 external, I'm trying to figure out how to supercharge it. I've seen the Miracles Aquarium banners, hopefully they do good work for you.

If I can make one recommendation, spend a few extra bucks and go with the 6200's. They are awesome. You will appreciate it in your 30" wide tank, you get a wider column. I'm running a 6100 and a 6200 side by side on one side of my tank (6200 on the other) and there is quite a difference.

I had one of those and it was to powerful for my 215g on the lowest setting. I could not believe how strong it was. I will keep your recomendation in mind. Thanks

With the "215g Oceanic 72x24x28 No centerbrace" are you going to use eurobrace?? Do you mind telling me how much it is going to cost?? Looking at a very similar size tank from Oceanic..

This is a replacement tank for the 215g that split. These 215g Oceanics are known for splitting and I would not buy another one. There is no bracing at all. Not even eurobracing. I think the 180g and 200g would be ok because they are only 24" high.

Thanks for the info..

A Oceanic 215g split on you?? Sorry to hear that?? Are they giving you this replacement tank for free?? Did you have the tank on an Oceanic stand??

I was planning on getting a 200g (84"x24"x24"). I like the idea of no bracing, but I might have to get the 200g with the center brace. The center brace is 24" wide (alot of salt creep).

Do you think I should get the one with or without bracing??

Thanks..

Nathan

If we are talking about the same tank maker, they quoted me $2200 for a 235g (84"x25"x26") tank with Starfire front and eurobracing(top and bottom) delivered to my door in NC.

So I guessing you are getting a better deal!!!

I'm paying about $1600 for a 72 x 24 x 24 starfire on face and sides, drilled for eco-wheel on back corners. FWIW.

Nope, I have to drive 3 hrs for the tank. I actually want it that way for now. If there are any problems with silicone, I'm not accepting the tank and it's alot easier to do that at the store than my house.
