Closed loop design questions..

Looking to set up a 300+ room divider. I want to run a closed loop for added flow, and need to know a little info.

The tank will have 2 side overflows (inwall design viewable on both long sides) and I need to figure out a plumbing set up. I thought of having 2 x 1.5" drains and 2 x 1" returns in each of the overflows. One of the drains from each overflow would connect to a 2" pvc that would connect to a Sequence Dart for the closed loop. In turn the outlet from the Dart would connect to an OM 4-way and then reduced down to the 1" retuns in the overflows, thus completing the closed loop.

The second set of 1.5" drains I would use to run to the sump and provide water to the skimmer, reactor, fuge, chiller, etc. This water would return to the tank via 2 SeaSwirls to provide more random current and turbulance.

Does this sound correct? The Dart is rated anywhere up to 3200 gph - will 2 x 1.5" drains keep up? Would I need to go to 2"?

Since the idea of a closed loop is that it is returning the exact same amount of water as it is removing form the tank, will I need a Durso on the suction drains? Will I be able to use them on the sump drains that are in the same overflow or would the suction drop the level in the overflows below that of the standpipe for the sump drain?

I'll ask the sump design questions in a different post.

Thanks for your help.
Chris

One more question, could I go with a single overflow on one side? The tank will either be 30" or 36" wide. I could have 3 x 2" drains and 2 x 1" returns in the overflow and still add the secon set of closed loop returns on the far end and still use the SeaSwirls fo the sump return.

This would give me potentially more viewing room inside the tank?

Will this be possible, or am I better off with the dual overflows since they will be against the side walls anyway?

Thanks

You really do not want to feed a closed loop from an overflow box.

a) You will drain the overflows and pull air into your pump creating microbubbles.
b) You will overwhelm your overflows
c) You will be recycling top scum back into the tank

You will be much better with either drilled bulheads or over the top direct feeds for your closed loop.
