What is your fishload going to be like?

You can't really have much in the way of fish in a 24 so skimming may not be necessary.

If I did a nano size tank, I would run it fishless or maybe just a 6 line or something small that is highly self sustaining and not have to feed much.

I assume there is no sump, but I think weekly water changes of about 25% and running some carbon and gfo would be all you would need on a 24 considering the bioload would be tiny.

This would be my route.

This also doesnt answer your question about a skimmer though.

Are you looking for in sump(goes back to do you have a sump) or a HOB type skimmer? We can go from there.

Well, I got into sps about 2 months ago and have a HUGE itch I am a college sutdent so im trying to be as cheap as I can with success. I already have a pretty nice collection of quality montis that I have scrounged around for. My tank has 3 fish a clownfish, gramma, and a psuedo. Since I am learning still I have to deal with the mistakes I have made. I have had to move every year so the less equipment the better. So I dont have and dont really want to have a sump till my tank is at a place that is permanent. I do have more algae then I should and if it wasnt for 3 powerheads I have I would have a large film on the top of the water. Just want to make the tank as healthy as I can and I have seen a fair amount of success my montis are all growing quite well and in such a short time I do have some carbon in the back part of my tank. I was told that the tunze nano can fit back there.

I would totally tell you to get a skimmer for a small tank. I think it's very necessary. Water conditions can go to crap in a very small tank like that so you want to have a skimmer there for filtration. A tunze 9002 will work well or a octo hot will work well.
