Need advice for Upgrading to T'5 please.
Im in the planning stage to upgrade from PC's to T'5s but i have no knowledge on how to select them. Im looking for fixture not retrofit. May i have advice/opinions on what brand is worth its cost. Im looking to keep at least a clam in the near future, no sps.

Make sure they have indevidual reflectors , and whene adding dont go full time on main lights. Start with a few hours adding time. Less stress and less chance a a algea outbreak.
Need to accumulate the tank to the better lighting. Besides that get the best you can afford.GL

I had a Current Nova Extreme T5 fixture and loved it. I kept anemones, LPS, and a clam with the lights. My husband still has the same lights on his tank- with multiple anemones and lots of LPS. I definitely recommend that fixture.

Thank you for your replies, all are helpful. Do you know the best site where I can find the cheapest T5's for my 55gal reef?

If you only want to keep softies and maybe some LPS, maybe. I'd spring for 4x54w. You'd be able to keep almost anything with that. I had a Tek 4x54w on my 55g for about a year before switching to MH (mostly for the shimmer). I kept 3 crocea clams, 1 derasa clam, some lower light demanding SPS (montipora, stylophora, pocillopora, porites), LPS and many zoanthids. Everything flourished, although one of the 3 crocea clams lost some color. Switching to MH has restored its color.

Check out the power module fixtures at..
reefgeek.com. I have one over my 75 gal & my tank has never looked better there is one T derasa clam in there & hes never looked better! The power module fixtures are pricy but weel worth the extra $ IMO....

I appreciate all reply the power module looks good and pricey and iv'e read bad input about the nova so compare the two I would grab the power module but that's not certain yet. how about selecting the bulbs could I get some input on that. I've read before on how some have different combos.I would like a crispy blue look in the tank.

Greg at reef geek helped me pick the bulbs for my power mod.
fixture based on the info I gave him about the look I wanted i must say he did a great job. I need to learn how to post pics so u could see what my tank looks like.. I have the six bulb fixture & It is Very bright it hangs 6 " over my tank & fried all my shrooms near the top of my aquascaping but every thing else is doing better than ever (clam , colt, & lps )look great. The growth rate has really picked up! so Grim is right when he says it might be overkill, however u might just go with a four bulb setup or bulbs with lower intensities
