mrpet, IWAN is not in the US, so the places he will suggest you shop are in Germany, and the fixtures he suggests will most likely be 220v... you really want that?

The Ice Cap ballasts are way cool with the 80 watt lamps. They don't overdrive them nearly as hard as 54 watt lamps. They are less expensive that 80 watt T5 ballasts. As long as you use fans to cool the lamps they will last over a year.

Glad to see you arent using all caps anymore mrpet...
http://redwing.hutman.net/~mreed/war...tm/allcaps.htm

12 rows of the 80wattT5s (running at 100watts each), would be perfect for a 72x48x30. Thats 1200watts of T5s (on four IC660 ballasts)... Depending on what you do though it could be too much.

Reefgeek is probably going to make you the best deal on the 80 watt system. Like ^^^ said a dozen lamps would be a good start depending on what you want to raise in the tank.

As for tubes - see if you can have a look at the new KZ Coral Lights T5s - 5% red and the remainder 50/50 white blue - best yet IME

Havn't seen them yet. UVL's actinic white might be something like that. Seems to have a bit of a pepto hue to it but it is a 50/50

If using the biodigest and biotim for a month or so without reefbooster cause problems. all water paramiters are good but a couple of things have had poor PE the last couple of weeks. I havent dosed reefbooster for over a month. My superman was getting rtn today and my stilo hasnt been looking real good. i was afraid of dosing it because of cyno.

Hi steve

sorry to hear that -

What are your ca/mg/dkh/ph/ no3/po4 levels? Are these steady? Any fluctuations in heat or salinity? Dosed anything else? Changed the lighting?

A couple of thoughts:

1) If DKH is outside the range of 6-8 - this could be a factor in the stn.

2) The first signs of nutrient limitation in my experience are fading going on bleaching. Answer dose with Booster or Amino acids.

Cyno is less worse than starving corals IMHO, and cyno is only a risk rather than a probability, and there again only cosmetic.

Cheers
