considering shipping companies charge by the pound, the extra cost for shipping with tiles over plastic would be $0...

Per pound would make a slight difference. plastic plug weights next to nothing, and the tile ways a bit more then next to nothing Add a bit of more water to the plastic plug one, and it'll cost more to ship, then the tile one

The plugs are as light as they can be made without gaining in buoyancy too much.

I cant remember where I saw it but here goes my description....
It was a 2 part system of differant preformed rocks with plug holes in them and preformed frag plugs that fit in the holes. Does anyone have a idea where I could find info on this idea? |

maybe, but I really don't think those tiles weigh more than 1/2 oz, honestly the weight at that point is negligible, what it really comes down to is how much water is in the bag, and how heavy the box is...

By the pound. The only time it would change, would be if the extra weight put it over the next lb. If it weighs 6lbs 2 oz. It goes to 7 lbs.

We made a few aragocrete mounts for the pvc plugs, they work rather well for continuing growout from a frag to a small colony. I have a few at the store that you cant even tell there was a plug to begin with.

It seems to me that you could build some LFS store loyalty by selling plugs that mate up with your agracrete rocks. You could give away a football size rock with 4-8 plug holes if you buy a few frags. The key is selling your frags that fit nicely into the holes but not so well for other stores frags.
ie..square or triangular holes in the rock and you sell plugs that sizeand shape. |

So who has tried these and what do you think. I'd love to hear some advantages and drawbacks. I just ordered 50 of them the other day so I'm just starting my testing.

Gooches look nice.
I am surprised someone isn't doing that with molded cement. If you had 5-10 interlocking rocks with frag holes. If they were about football size you could mix and match to come up with some unique rock-scape. If you dumped them in the ocean for awhile you could sell them for over $10 a pound retail. If the plug holes were a unique shape you customers would look for plugged frags that fit. |

Hmmm, we found polycarbonate to be too lightweight to stay in place with the Fragpod's. PVC was the only common material we found to be dense enough to keep the frags from flying away with decent flow.
Wonder if those have been tested in a high flow environment.

Tried, tested and approved by me in my system I love em. They fit snuggly on the "cross sections" of the eggcrate. If you put them in the squares, they can move a little side to side, but I have yet to have them blow out. That's even when I mess around and remove the contoller on the Stream (full force).
FWIW his (Aquatic Oddyssey's) new site for those is www.coralcradles.com
