Aiptasia Control for 30 gallon
I know this a basic question, but:
I bought some three Berghia, and have never seen them again. I've had them for a month, and the Aipatsia seems to keep growing. They may or may not be dead. I also have been periodically using Joe's Juice just to zap the big ones that are nearest my corals. It works, but it seems they just pop up somewhere else very quickly. I just last week bought three peppermint shrimp, which I'm assuming are still alive, but I have never seen them since I introduced them to the tank. Is this common? Should you see Peppermint shrimp during the day, or do they hide behind and under rock? Also, I just started a slow Kalk drip with my makeup water, which I believe will help regulate the Aiptasia. Anyone have any other suggestions about keeping the Aiptasia at bay? Right now, I bet there's about 100 Aiptasia in the tank (mostly very small). |

hey delfinparis,
first off, did you put your berghia into the tank together, like on a rock pile? they are masters of disguise and you probably won't see them much until the population rises when they breed. that being said - berghia eat aiptasia and store their nematocysts in their bodies. peppermint shrimp are attracted to aiptasia. peppermint shrimp have been known to eat berghia. |

delfin, peppermints do hide alot, so do berghia, keep an eye on the aiptasia and you may see the numbers dwindle
