Is this normal? (pics inside)
I just received my JBJ Mini Artica chiller. While doing an inspection i found green/blue marks on the metal(copper?) lines inside the chiller. Is this corrosion? Is it normal on a brand new unit or is this something that should be returned? Thanks for any advice.

Looks like rust to me. If it is I would definetely return it. Is the unit used or new?

I would guess that it's normal. Copper line coming from condensor is what we're looking at?
Green color could be oxidation or chemical reaction on the surface? I'd need a closer look -

looks like the didn't wipe all the acid off after soldering.
wipe it off with a damp rag, and it'l be fine. |

well jbj emailed back and this was their response-
"Mu guess is it is corrosion on the outside of the copper lines if they were left out for some time prior to u using them in the plant which should cause no problems" Last edited by seagirl; 01/09/2008 at 05:15 PM. |

anyone that has a jbj chiller in use, is this common on that line

it is common for all copper to oxidize some, as in your case....whether it is a jbj chiller or your home A/C...the copper tubing is the same and handles the weather well...one line going in to the compressor will have condensate buildup because the refrigerant is freezing going in....over time that will cause staining....but i stress it is absolutely no big deal
